Well, we've gone into overdrive on our 2010 Camaro SS project car since we want it mostly done, performance wise, by SEMA.

First up was installing a DSE suspension kit. It was super easy to bolt on (except removing the front factory sway bar.. ack!) and we didn't even need a spring compressor. Car feels much better now and far less "wallowy" (is that a word?). It also looks better with the drop and we have zero problems with driveways and bumps.

Next up was the biggie.. the Magnacharger. This was done on a bone stock engine, we even kept the paper filter. We also did it to pass California smog and run on our craptastic 91 octane gas. In other words it was a very conservative tune.

The final pull ended up being 472 rwhp and 451 rwtq. Later we will try a cam and a few other "outside CA" modifications. As for the blower it feels great, more like it just has a higher displacement engine rather than a blower. The power comes on gradually and not "all at once". I think it would be good for a car that does track duty. Dropping into third on the freeway is a blast now and in sixth you wouldn't even know it's there. I was very impressed and I think one will end up on my car.. maybe soon.

BUT, we did find one limitation.. the stock clutch. Decided to try launching from a stop.. not a huge clutch dump, but fairly aggressive. Well.. the clutch bid this life farewell in a hail of smoke and nasty smells.. it's toast. We can still drive the car, just not hard since slips like crazy now.

We called Centerforce and as soon as we told them we put on the blower they said "so, have you blown the clutch yet?" I guess they've had this happen already. A new 2010 dual friction clutch is on the way and I will put it in on Wednesday so we can still make it to Buttonwillow raceway on Friday.

Today the Camaro got new Baer 6S brakes.. the 15" rotors are crazy big and the calipers are insanely big. The install took all of an hour and a half over at Best Of Show.. it really was that easy to do and that included bleeding them out. Right now I'm bedding in and seasoning them but so far they feel great and look great behind the factory wheels. In a couple weeks we will have our new Boze Forged wheels and 275 front/315 rear NT05 tires..

Sorry about the cluth Yancy! lol

Nice Steve! Did Andrew do the tune for you? The supercharger is the great equalizer. My friend John said it best, "It's sneaky fast."

I'm looking forward to seeing it Friday.

I love the fact that we have gotten to the point where disc brakes are as big as the factory wheels on a Camaro just two generations ago.

Nice numbers, and the drop looks pretty good (this is coming from someone who generally doesn't agree with drops). I'd love to hear a sound clip. :)

I have one question, is the stock clutch the same as the LS7 clutch or was it a different clutch altogether for the LS3 Camaro?

Yep.. good tuner.

They really want me to bring my '68 by there for a little love.. I'm so tempted.

The funny part is that they don't look big inside the 20-inch rims... we made the same observation about rotors as big as rally rims.

I doubt it.. I think it's specific to the 2010. I'm not the first guy to smoke one.

well, I know what I'll be doing if I ever decide I need extra fast. That's awesome.

Magnacharger-yadda-yadda-yadda.

Did you put a good alignment on it and screw with the tire pressures? Results?

We put the DSE reccomended alignment in it.. we messed with air but found these tires.. in our test.. worked better with more air (they rolled over with low air like we run in our PT tires)

Results will be in the January issue of CP.. but there was a marked improvement and overall the car feels much more stable with no noticable increase in ride harshness. Considering we still have the stock struts we were pretty happy.

I wonder how well an LS2 would do with a Magnacharger???

Top rack along the back of the shop!

It all depends on how "big" you want to go on components. I kinda like having most items on the engine be on the small side, hence making it less expensive, easy to drive, and easy on components. The LS2 is very receptive to 6-7 psi, makes 475-500RWHP with a super small cam and pump gas, and purrs like a kitten.

You mind sharing cam specs with us, Carl?

What I find most amazing about all this is...Detroit Speed ALREADY has a suspension kit for the new Camaro.

That is mind blowing.

Wow. How deficient are the stock brakes?

I am working on suspension pieces for the 2010 Camaro, and I can confirm that the front swaybar is a beatch to change out.

Steve haven't the clutch behind all the LS series engines been crap?

Wow. How deficient are the stock brakes?

Actually the SS have 4 piston Brembos that work great, they are not deficient like the 3rd gen Camaros were.

Can't wait to see what the 2010 does at Button.

We baseline tested the 2010 brakes and they did pretty darn good.. 60-0 in anywhere from 125-130 feet with only a little fade after repeats.

The Baer brakes feel better though.. will test once they are burned in.

And yea, factory clutches (except the LS7 unit) have been lackluster when hit with more power.

Sweet. I ran my 2010 SS/RS at the track (NHMS) with my local clubb COM (www.comscc.org (http://www.comscc.org)) last week. Totally stock and the car performed really well.

I have been debating on the Magnacharger, exhaust and a few other upgrades over the winter. I was super impressed with the factory Brembos as even after a full day of track abuse they never faded so even though I like how the Baers look I don't think I'll swap.

So far my only mod has been the Hurst shifter which I put in on Saturday. It shortens the through imensly and I like the feel. Keep us posted on the build as I am eager to learn more that I can do to mine. Now that I have seen it the DSE suspension is added to my "to do" list.

Some guys have powder coated the stock Brembos.. looks really nice.
