I hear all kinds of stories on this one as to why one is preferred over the other.

I like 68's, non RS's. I like the lines of the car, the grill and the fact that it doesn't have vent windows. That and you see plenty of 69's. I like 69 Firebirds the best.

69 RS/Z28

I like the RS grill, the z28 stripes, and the painted endura bumper. I like the body lines on the 69 and the more square body appearance vs. the 67-68. The quarter fins also look great.

I own a 68. The only thing I am not crazy about on the 69 is the dash. Big fan of the ignition switch on the dash and the rounded style gauges in the 67-68's. Just my preference.

I love all the first gen yrs., just the perfect body / look to me. I own a 67 RS and do not mind the vent windows at all. I do not understand what the big deal is with vents. I like the RS grilles / hidden lights, solid tail lights, back-ups under the bumper and center consoles. When doing the car search, I was originally looking for a 69 but could not pass up the deal on my 67. 69"s are way to common now, so I'm happy. One of the downfalls on the 69 is the dash though.

I would have to agree. Seems like everyone bashes the wing windows on the 67's. It's kind of nice to open it to let fresh air in.

But all the first gen camros are the best looking out of all the years. I wouldn't turn down any of them.

because it's the best looking, highest value when compared equally, and looks lower in the rear due to the shape of the rear wheelwells (tires tuck under the fender instead of being fully visible)............. :)

69 RS Z/28 with a 4spd and DZ302 motor. That is by far my favorite camaro. A close second is the 70 1/2 z/28 though. I love the european flare on the 2nd gens. (70-73). 74 on up is a huge compromise for safety and ruined the lines.

wow what a question, i couldnt decide so now i own all 3 black 67 w/ white bumble bee stripe. blue 68, and hugger orange w white stripe 69. each car has its unique features my fav is the 68 though.

vent windows are great! my '70 nova was a great summer hwy car because of them. for the topic, though, from a style standpoint, the '69 'flows' better than the earlier cars. the front end esp; the '67-8 has a very clunky grill setup, they couldn't figure out what to do w/ the parking lights, and the bumper was an afterthought. the '69, though, got it all smoothed out, moved the lights down below, and the bumper got integrated into the design better.
it's like 3 good looking sisters; the oldest 2 are fun and attractive, but that youngest one is HOT!

I like the 67. A few reasons. I like the sharper angles of the 7&8.
I like the wing windows as it is a fall ack to my other lover Tri 5 Chevys.

I prefer the dash in the 7&8 over the more Plastic looking 69.

I have a '69 RS and it has been my ideal car for a while. Having said that, I have always liked a '68 10" tire drag car. For some reason they look more suited to drag racing than a '69. Also the '68 would have to be red with a white nose stripe.

make mine the 67 rs without front bumper... dont really care if its an ss or not.

its just that folks dont like the wing windows on the 67 and i do.. plus its THE first camaro..

and those years are the most muscular... not taking away from the refined chiseled lines of the 69.. but i think its the more brolic of the 3 years..

I prefer the '68 RS. That car was my first ride home from the hospital. Growing up my Dad had a number of muscle cars, but his '68 was what stood out to me.

I don't think there's a single cosmetic change from '67 to '68 that I didn't like. The non RS's had a more aggressive, deeper grill. The rectangular turn signals, the addition of side marker lights, the absence of wing windows.

I'm not sure why I don't really like the '69s as much. The first things that I can think of would be that I don't really like the tail lights, the dash, the square wheel wells, or the gills in front of the rear tires.

When I was 10 (1980) I saw a 1967 SS/RS Vert in Hot Rod Mag which set off a chain of events that I have yet to recover from.............

..............From discovery, to amazement, to lust, to acquisition, to repair, to modification, to disabled, to disassembled, to long term stored, to parts accumulation, to body shop, to restored, to car showed, to near fatal accident, back to parts accumulation, to body shop, to restored........

...............it is a vicious cycle...............almost an addiction.......

...............but a fun one!

Love the 67 RS Grill. Just a beautiful design all around. Still respect and admire the 68s' and 69s', just like my 67 more.

I think :idea: that 67/68s lend better to 'pro street' style and 69s are a better 'pro tourer' Ive owned both and enjoyed them at the time.

Why? becuase they are far more "curvaceous" than the 69s... They just plain look sexy.

I will say though that the '69 looks more modern and the '69 RS front (with enduro bumper) is the best looking front on any car ever.

I love my 67 ss/rs. I just have to have the hide-away lights. I really like that little wind wing and I like the fact that it's the first Camaro.

On the 68 I like the side markers on the fenders and quarters. The hood vents also look better on the 68.

On the 69 I like the lights in the valance panel.

67 is the first, and though it is not as refined as the others may be, they had a chance to work out some of the bugs inherent in any new design, the 67 has so many unique features, and is so very customizable. My 67 with the 68 Yenko hood, 67 Console, and gauge pack, Kilo Speedometer, Tachometer, 350 Engine, and added rear spoiler is the best of all worlds. Like the 69 Corvette, it isn’t the greatest to Drive, and it isn’t the most powerful, but, you can see it from a mile away, and you know it is a Corvette. That is the way it is with a 67 Camaro. You can’t get any better than that. Cruising in the summer evenings with the windows open and the air coming in the vents, The Stereo going, it doesn’t get any better than that.
There are so many 68s and 69s out there with the cowl hoods all looking the same, My 67 makes people take a second look.
All first gens are great, I just like mine the best, and isn’t that the way it should be.

69 standard grille b/c of the deeper recess, along with the fender and quarter lines makes it look more aggressive IMO.

My father would more less agree with you but he bought a 68 RS/SS 350 new.

I always liked the wider 69 lines. The RS grill with endura bumper just top it off. They look wide and aggressive IMO.

When I was looking to buy my 1st gen a 69 RS was tops, next a non RS 69 was tied with 67/8 RS cars, then a 67 nonRS and last a 68 non RS (was not a fan of the rectangular parking lights in the grill but they have grown on me)

1967-68 RS front end is a work of beauty,perfection in metal...no way to top that.Absolute elegant classic look.

1967 non-RS car,also a great look,more racy looking than the RS version no doubt.Never cared for the '69 RS look although I understand why it was done that way.

Love both the 1967-8 body style,flat hood,no front bumper,rear spoiler..great look.

Having said that...there's no way to fault the 1969 body style,it's perfection perfected in my eyes...classic lines carved in metal that continue to withstand the test of time...and look better today then ever!

me thinks those who put down the '69 are bitter,jealous haters...but I digress,lol.

Isn't it basically the same as '68...?

1967 base grille with the round marker lights looks competitive,whereas the '68 looks like an afterthought...like it was changed just because.

I had a '68 RS and it was pretty devoid of trim,I thought they were identical to 67's.

hmm, not sure year one has different part numbers for 67 and 68 and on my lap top the center grille looks like its got chrome on it. the headlamp covers look the same though but still different part numbers.

I love my 67 because it has such a "Classic" look to it, for a long time I didn't like any other year. Now that I have been in the PT world, I can really say that if I buy another first gen, it will be a 69, I love the grill, the curves, the tail... the only thing that I hate about a 69 Camaro is it's dash! I will argue all day that the 67 design is much better.

I like all 3 for different reasons..
69's because the wheel arches look good when the car is low, they cover more of the wheel.. and they just have a mean look because the car is wider looking, also the marker lights in the front valance and so on.. I have to admit Ive loved 69's since i was a little kid with hot wheels, to the point where Im kinda burned out on them and really appreciate the 7's and 8's now..
Between the 67 and 8 I kinda like the 7 better. The 68's do look smoother with no wing windows, but I love the wing windows, they have a classic look to them.. and I actually like the 67 grille better too. I own a 68 though so it wins by default lol...:spank2:
I wasnt even looking for one, just fell in my lap, but I bought my car in 2001 with a brand new ZZ4, factory 4 speed, all rebuilt suspension with upgrades, one (or 2) paint jobs over original and a rough interior for $6800, drove it home.. just thought id throw that in there lol..

I want to get a Camaro myself and im torn between these cars. Right now im leaning towards the 69 ( i love the gills by the rear tire) but that dash is horrendous. 67s and 68s are a little more acceptable in that department but being a mustang guy nothing will beat the dash of my 67 fastback. I kinda like the idea of owning a 67 Camaro to go along with my 67 mustang but i think the Camaro's look better without the side vents.

I have owned all three years at some point. But I have owned Dust Off for 40 years now and to be honest I can't imagine any $ amount that would be able to purchase it from me. I have always preferred the 67/68 styling but I like the more rectangular effect of the side mirrors, side marker lights and park lights of the 68. I suspect one reason the 69 is so popular is becasue there are simply more of them. The 69s were produced for 1 1/2 years up till mid year 1970 due to a delay in the factory change over as I recall.

I wanted a 69 but I came across this unloved 67 and knew it was meant to be fixed up and saved. Not one regret since. I like being the step child of the 1st gen. She just doesn't look right without the old school vent windows.

Having said that, its a lot easier to get a 69 to sit right but have horrible dashes. 69 is a cooler number than 67 or 68. Mark likes 69s.
I'm still keeping my 67

It depends on the taste of the person some people like 69 because its only 1 year , i personally dont like it. Its to straight, too square 68, i dont like the grill with the oval lights and 68 its just a modify model of the 67 , now i owened a 67and the reason i like it is simple. They are the first camaro model and it got curves not like the cars of its year mustangs they are super straight. Hope it helps

i can speak from experience. ive had 3 68's and 2 67's. been out of the game for quite awhile, prob 20 years. i just however less than a week ago bought my first 69. always wanted one since its the year i was born. plus due to the fact i never finished the last 68 i had, i feel i need to complete this for myself. always kinda liked the 68 better then the 67 due to not being a fan of the vent window. the 69 grew on me over the years. like the rs front end. the 69 i just bought is a standard 69 so no point in my opinion to spend a ton of money restoring to bone stock. first line of biz is the complete pro touring subframe set up. very excited to take on the project.

I like the '68 best. It has all the great looks of the '67, but has a much better rear suspension setup. The staggered shock setup on the '68 is so much better for traction.

69 for me. When I was 14 a Daytona yellow Z/28 with the headers open drove by where I was hanging out and almost rattled my teeth out of my head and proceeded to crank that little 302 up to around 8,000 rpm and I was hooked! Got my 69 Z/28 in 1972 and was in love.

67 SS. I don't like the fender creases on the 69. I don't like the side markers or the rectangular turn signals in the grill on the 68. I like the round turn signals in the 67 grill. I like things that define the era of vintage cars. Things like vent windows, drip rails, chrome door handles with push buttons, factory gauges... To me the 67 and 68 just look tough. They look muscular. That's the only word I can think to describe them. I just like the subtleties of the 67 better. And to me, the 69 just looks bigger.

I had several of all three years. Right now I have 2 68s and 4 67s. I really like the 67 the best with the vent wing and rally sport grill. The body of the 67-8 has better curves and lines.
My favorite view is the rear of a 67 camaro with the rally sport option....nice azz.:)

I did what Mr. Vengeance suggested. Took all the parts I liked of each year and applied it to my 67. Not easy but then again it would be a satisfying if it was. I also took a little something from the 80's, mirrors from an IrocZ. Any year you decide on will be a good choice.

68 with door ledge reveal chrome moldings. No vent windows, prefer the 68 grill, love the door moldings.

I've got a 69, first car will keep it as long as I'm around. But always liked the 68

Off topic but I've always considered building a Frankenstein second gen taking the best parts from camaro, firebird and mashing it into 1 car. It wouldn't be worth a damn thing when it was done, but I'd have fun with it.
