Hey Guys,
I'm installing a Competition Engineering in my 69 Camaro Pro Touring Camaro. Of course this is in kit form which requires alot of cutting and welding. My question is how much space I should leave between the headliner and the top of the bar? I'm thinking around 1/4 to 1/2 inch?

Thanks:twothumbs

if you want to drag race the car i think the NHRA rule is 2" over the helmet. Double check that tho

That would require it on top of the roof even for my short ass. LOL

whats the point of a roll bar/cage if it can protect you in a roll over. I agree some cars will need to have a lowered seat to meet this regulation. The other part of that rule is the bar has to be no more than 6" behind your helmet when looking from the side of the car.

there are already a few threads on here that discuss the downsides of a cage in a street car, so we wont go there.

depending on how you weld this. tuck it up as high as you can to keep it away from your head, but give enough room to weld without burning your headliner.

i hope this helps.

This is just a 4 point bar not a full racing 8 point. It is going to be bolt in so I can remove it if I want more of a stock look. Right now i'm in the mock up stage with no headliner in it yet but I dont want to get it in and then find the bar sits to high and rubs on it. I was thinking maybe around 1" below the actual roof sheet metal?:dunno:

My headliner was put in prior to the roll bar.

that will probably work. have a friend sit in the seat so when you mock it up you can see where the main hoop is in relation to his head.
