Randy Johnson did a corvette IRS in a 69 camaro he did a while ago.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. The performance gain doesn't doesn't make it worth the effort at all. A solid axle can perform very, very well if done right.

If you want an IRS for performance the semi trailing arm 04-06 GTO rear suspension is the last thing I'd swap into a car. The rear suspension in my old 04 GTO wasn't idea for traction or performance and back when I owned there wasn't much in the way of performance gear ratios, not sure there if there is now. You would be better off swapping a customized Corvette setup (fabrication required for C5 stuff?) or even a 1999-2004 Cobra IRS. At least those assemblies are not semi trailing and offer aftermarket support, and the Cobra IRS is self contained on a mountable subframe weldment.
