View Full Version : regulator wire on LT1

I know this has been covered but I suck at the search function. I've already looked to no avail so I'm just asking. On my 96 LT1, there are two wires on the alternator. The one is the big wire that recharges the battery. The other is a small wire that turns the regulator on. If I am correct, I simply need to get that wire connected to an ignition source with a 470 ohm resistor inline. Is that correct? Does it matter what ignition source I use. At this point, I'm thinking of just going right back to one of my ignition wires that will feed the injectors since they are right there. If that's correct of course.

Thanks

Mine is coming from under the dash & is the original Monte "trigger" wire that energizes the old alternator. It also, somehow, gives the signal to the gauge.

But I would say you are correct that any switched 12v source will work. With the resistor & probably a diode to keep the alternator from back feeding through that wire.

Thanks Scot. I've got the Helms manual for my car. I just wasn't 100% sure on how they wired it since it has the dash light and what not in there. I'm not running any lights. I'm going to run a voltage gauge one day when I can afford gauges, lol.
