OK guys Im new here. I have been wanting to start a new project for some time now. Mostly been building 4x4's and diesels lately. Its been around 10 years since my last true performance car.
I did own and auto-X a fairly quick BMW 2002TII in my former life.

Anyway for some reason I have really been wanting to build something thats truly fun to drive and for some strange reason I keep thinking something like a S-10 truck would be fun.

From all the reading I have been doing lately it seems like the parts are out there to build a canyon carving truck.
This will be a budget build, Im not independantly wealthy.

I have plenty of tools and fab experience. I have my own Mig and Tig as well as a descent hydro bender and everything else I have ever needed as far as car mods go.

I cant explain why the little S-10's are calling my name....

Also the fact that my father in law (a die hard ford guy) Auto-X's a pretty nice Saleen Mustang and I (die hard chevy guy) really want to beat him with more labor than money.

The big question here is if I start with something like this little truck am I shooting myself in the foot before I even start ?

Is there another vehicle ( besides a new vette ) that is a vastly superior starting point ? ( keeping dirt cheap in mind )

Im not going for style on this one. Just sheer fun when the road gets curvy. I am fairly competent in the art of Bondo and my spray gun so it will still look descent when done. lol

By using some of the aftermarket arms and springs available in the front and by fabricating a nice rear suspension am I going to be able to compete with the other guys, or am I going to be that guy that just dissapears in a big cloud of tire smoke with orange cones flying in every direction ?

Just an added note. After thinking about what I read in the stickies I will classify this new project as more of a " Street-Fighter" type thing than anything else.
Descent 355" small block, Ford 9", No A/C etc.....

Think Gbody handling parts, give Marcus a shout over at SC&C, keep the engine tight and sweet.
