Frank just got off the phone with Bill Howell. Bill said that Bob rolled the Cadillac XXLR at 260mph at Bonneville.

According to Bill, Bob walked away from the accident!!!

That's all the info I have right now.

Bob, count your blessings.

Damn! That car was awesome. I'm really glad Bob walked away though and got into the 200mph class before this happened.

Damn, Bob even crashes cool.

(based on 'walked away' I assume he is ok and thus it's ok to laugh a bit)

+1 !! Time for a trouser change!!

He did leave some awesome skidmarks.......

Good to hear that the cage did its job of taking the brunt of the blow and sacraficing itself for the driver to walk away, a bit more sore in the next few days but walking a talking. Here is the trophy for the chassis buildier :1st:

Hey 406 I like the new location, and yeah I would say rolling at 260+ a bushel shovel might be needed for the shorts cleaning.

Copied this from a post on the LSR forum in a thread about the world of speed going on now.

I'll just mention that the incident with the #283 (Bob Johnson Caddy) was both a bad thing and a good thing. The bad is that when he popped the chute after qualifying for the fuel class record, the chute lifted the rear end off the ground, the front end dug in and in did numerous end over end flips. The good news is that I talked with Bob just before the pits closed and he's fine. Not a scratch. The rest of the bad is that, according to a crew member, there isn't a salvageable piece left of the car.

So did the timing crew make the run official or was that the first run?

damn those chutes. He was talking about reworking them to get them to deploy better after having some scary issues with them the prior time out to bonneville. I'm glad Bob is ok though.

Bob will just build another one!
Long time in the making and short lived vehicle.
Glad to hear your OK and cudos to the cage builder!

Damn!! That's amazing that Bob walked away from a 260mph roll! That is GREAT to hear. Hats off to the builder and cage fabricator. Very sorry to hear about the car, but those can be replaced, Bob can't be!
