I hadn't heard about such a thing, might be interesting to try if I can find a clean enough spot in my house (don't ask).

I'm beginning to be a believer in this program, I've seen my max set increase since I started a few weeks ago.

I going to do this with my 15 yo twins. That way we all can stay motivated. They say they are going to kick my butt in this. No way this 46 yo guy is going to let that happen.

I just knocked out 46 before having to pause. I think I can do 100 within a couple days if I keep at it.

I've run across it a few times, but never started it. I took this post as a challenge! :)
Only managed 33 initial, but we'll see where this takes me.

My initial was 35, so we are in the same group on that program. Basically following column #3 through the weeks/days.

I was hoping my oldest would work with me on this...but he doesn't seem at all interested. I expect he would give me a tough run for my money anyways, he is 13, thin and all muscle, whereas I'm 44, 5'-11 and 185lbs with a truck innertube around my midsection....LOL, but I was hoping he would help keep me challenged to finish this thing.

Lol age doesn't have anything to do with. Im 20, 5'8'' and 171lbs at 9% bf while my dad whose 47, 5'5" around 160lbs 14% bf from his last fitness test, would destroy me in a physical test and I work out daily.
Everytime he beats me he says "You just don't get it, your still just a kid" Being pissed off and gasping for breath is a terrible blow to your ego (I talk alot of smack to him before lol)

When I was in AFROTC, push-ups were my weakest point on the PFT. One day I just started busting them out until I couldn't push up any more. I think I did 60. But then I couldn't pull myself up into my dorm loft bed. >_<
If you keep doing them little by little you can definitely get to 100. You just have to work at it and not overexert yourself the first day or two.
Whatever you do, don't let someone talk you into doing stairs around a college stadium. I should have stopped at 3/4 the way around. The next day I couldn't bend my knees.

I didn't read anything on the posted link, but there's one thing I know for certain about push-ups. If you pause at all, you are done. Go as hard and fast as you can before all of your ATP is gone. If you allow yourself the luxury of pausing or slowing down, I guarantee you will complete probably 20 fewer reps. It's that way with any fast-twitch muscle fiber, in my experience.

Since I did my workout in the morning, I felt pretty rested lastnight, so I did an exhaustion test to see if I could better my max.....yup, got a 45...woohoo, new max for me. I'm glad that I can see some progress, it helps me keep pluggin at this goal of 100.

I decided to jump on the bandwagon, but I am also going to apply this to my sit ups and pull up routine. I think the same methodology can be applied, any takers?
John Wright
09-17-2009, 07:02 AM
Yeah, I wanna do the situps and squats, then add the pull ups...but I want to concentrate on this one goal right now. I really want to make it happen. I got caught up doing to many different routines the last time and my elbows hurt all the time...I was doing the perfect pushup routine and the perfect pull up routine plus using the ab straps on the pull up bar....I ended up hurting myself more than helping.

Week #5 looks intimidating..I hope I can keep up with this schedule this week. I'm kinda excited, I started a few weeks ago and my sets of reps are more than my max was when I first started. Pretty cool to see the progress.

Went home after work and set a new personal max set of 70, then did another 51 to make it an even 400 pushups for the day.
I plan to keep working on Week#6, Day#3 Column#3 for the rest of this week(Wed and Fri) and then shoot for the 100 straight max set next week...got my fingers crossed that I can do it.

OK I decided to give this a try. I never imagined in my life that I could do 100 push ups so I am going to see if this will work. Tonight I did the initial test to see how many I could do. I have puny little toothpick arms so I was a little surprised that I could get 18 done. Not alot I know, but more than I expected. I probably should start in the beginning of the week, so I may finish this week out as week #1 & go through all next week as week 1 as well & then the following Monday start the week #2 routine.

OK an update on my challenge with this. I am on Week 3, day 2, level 3, & today I did 102 pushups in 5 different sets.
20, 25, 15, 15, & 27 couldn't do any more than that on my last set.
A couple days ago my daily test was to see how many I could do without stopping. I managed to get 31, up from my 18 max 2 weeks before. So it does work.

I am just starting week 6 & wanted to post some results. At the beginning I managed only 18 for the initial test. A couple days ago I did the test at the end of week 5 & I managed 83 consecutively. This has actually impressed myself, never thought I would be able to go from 18 to 83 in 5 weeks.

I think I will give this a try. On top of the strenght increase to be able to do 100 through strength increase. Any noticble muscle growth/definition?

I started into the 200 situp program a few weeks ago....I've been slacking in that though....it makes my back sore, so I haven't been quite as dedicated to this one.

This looks pretty cool I'll have to try it out. I lift regularly but I don't do pushups much. I've been trying to increase my bench max so I'd be curious if getting to where I can do 100 pushups would increase my bench strength much.

I think it helped my arms moreso than anything...my triceps especially.

I'll bring this back up to the top to get some updates!
My 14 Y. O. son and I started last week and will be starting week two tonight. My initial was 18 and his was 16.
The public announcement should help keep me on track as well.......

I'm going to repeat week 5 and 6. I've never had a lot of upper body strength and I had to drop down to the left column on week 6. I can now do 60 consecutive push ups though!
How are the rest of you doing?
6'9"Witha69
01-23-2010, 12:29 PM
I used to be able to do 50. Although I have been lifting, running and boxing 5-6 days a week for a long time now, I tried this morning and could only do 29 straight through. I may try to divert a few days a week to this. My sparring partner thinks it will do well for my jab and hooks especially.
We'll see.

im 44 run, workout. i do 4 sets of 70 pushups 3-4 times a week. its one of the best all around exercises you can do for upper body. im not big or anything, but they do as much for me as any weightlifting that i do

Anyone done this or something similar with sit ups? I work with the military and I'm always giving my buddies crap about being in worse shape so I finally took a PT test with them today. I did more push ups and out ran them all but I failed the sit ups lol.
Edit: shoulda looked at the website first. I see the two hundred sit ups thing. I'll start doing that.

Situps....I didn't do the whole 200 situp routine, but have been using my reverse incline bench to do several sets of 100 situps during my workouts. For the final set of 100, I grab a 35lb plate and hold it to my chest while doing the situps....that makes my gut burn pretty good....LOL
