Mods if this is the wrong place i appolagize. Guys i have a 63 impala that has a 283/ th350 nothing special just a nice cruiser. I have a chance to trade fro a 64 chevelle with a 383/th350 thats set up for a street/strip. My delima is last year at goodguys i made the mistake and watched the auto-x and now im hooked. I feel the impala is to big and heavy, plus there is more aftermarket for the chevelle. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys.

The Impala looks like a better car than the 'Velle from your pics.

You might be better off selling outright then finding what you want.

I would keep the impala also. Ridetech makes a great kit for it.

If it were me, and the cars were of equally quality I'd trade in a heartbeat. That said, it looks like the Chevelle is a bit lagging in the quality department.

how much more does the Impala really weigh? i'd bet it's really not much more than the Chevelle. stick some parts under it and go swerve around some cones.

Well,
I guess I'm going to go against the grain. My opinion is a little jaded due to life experiences, so my opinion shouldn't weigh too heavily.
In the 80's my brother had a cool hot rod 64 Chevelle and my dad had a slightly hot rodded 66 Chevelle. I really loved both of those cars. My cousin, a drug dealin caucasian wannabee from Vallejo, CA had a couple of 62 and 64 Impalas dropped down with skinny Tru-Classic spokes and Supremes and GlassPacks

I appreciated the Impalas but not what the statement said back in the 80's. I remember a stabbing, a shooting, broken windows from baseball bats, an explosion at his house, girlfriend with the occasional black eye, strung out psycho girlfriend dumped sugar in the gas tank, kicked in body panels...all separate incidents...you get the picture.
Now that I'm older, I really like the Impalas (especially the 62-64) as hot rods, but if I had my choice for a Pro-Touring car, it would be the Chevelle. That picture is way too small to see the quality of the Chevelle. If you really built the Impala for yourself, then you should keep it...unless you're ready for something new. There's nothing wrong with deciding to build another car. There's plenty of guys who build a car and sell it to start something new.
If you're considering building a car that handles well, working with your X-frame car is definitely a start on the wrong end of the curve.

If you love the Impala then keep it. If you've changed your interest, build it to handle. I can be done, you're just going to have to work harder at it then you would on a perimeter framed Chevelle or a subframed Camaro.
We can't make up your mind. That's your job. :)
Good luck! :)

Trade your car for his plus cash. But only if you're sure you're ready to get rid of her.

That Imp is gorgeous-I wouldn't let that one go. If you want to carve corners pick up something else to do it in. It doesn't have to be nice, spend your $$ on the suspension parts and have fun with it.
Keep the Impala!
They CAN be made to corner well, and like someone said above, I'd bet they're not THAT far apart in weight. (sub-300lbs)

I say keep the Impala as well. The 67 Impala the Mythbusters destroyed only weighed 3700 lbs and that is the later car which is a little heavier. Plus it would be cool seeing it autocrossing. :smoke:
I'd keep the Impala. Do you want a project that will involve a long build, or a car you can buy and start having fun with right away? Purpose built, or full PT treatment?
If getting out on the track ASAP was my main goal, I'd get a Miata. Stock'ish to get the skills up to par & then a ford 5.0 (budget friendly) or LSX swap. jut my .02
