Hey man - I'd love to come take a look at that. I'm also doing a 68 coupe. I've just sold another car so I'm planning on starting work this weekend. There's some rust in mine though - the cowl it toast and a lot of patchwork :(

I showed pictures of the completed suspension I thought I would show the start of the Rod & Custom coilover rear suspension. We had one of the early kits. The kit is a bolt in but we decided to weld the crossmembers in.

Looks awesome! Are those the final wheels or are you planning on going with something more meaty? Looks like you have some room to fit some bigger meats on that back.

At the time the photo was taken it still had the 8" rear now it has a 9" from a 63 Galaxie and the track is wider. If I change the rims I will go wider with more backspace.

Body work finished on the fender aprons and firewall. I filled in the cowl vent.

Nice work I like all the body mods you have done makes the car look mean.

I would like to do the trunk and the bottom of my car with bed liner like you have do you need a special gun to spray that or is it a matter of getting a bigger spray tip for my gun.

At this time the Coupe is not at the shop. We are working on a 1963 427 Galaxie and a 1964 427 Custom (base model Galaxie).

Let me know when it's back at the shop. You've done some of the exact repairs and modifications that I've been contemplating.

I'm getting ready to send mine to the blaster soon (been saying that for a while). If the frame is solid, I'm going to go ahead and start suspension work, as I'd like to see how the wheels fit before I start the fender flares.

Nice job!

Yes you need a special gun that costs about $40.00. SPI has the gun and the bed liner.

I molded the headlight buckets on and started to test fit the front apron and spoiler.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/09/134-1.jpg

I don't like the big front spoiler so we started to trim it

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/09/144-1.jpg

This is close to the size I want we just have to blend it into the fender and add a small lip to give it a more finished look.

I kept changing my mind on the tail lights. First I thought about the Shelby lights, than I tried the deluxe tail light panel but it just did not look right to me so this is what we did.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/09/321-1.jpg

Since I had cut out the taillight panel for the deluxe panel we had to use the tail light section from another rear panel.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/09/174-1.jpg

The reproduction panel was to big so Brian cut it down and added studs than welded it in.

My project has been put on hold for a little while I need to get a couple of customer cars finished first. Also I have 3 car shows coming up in October and I will be taking my Super Stocker that I raced in the 70's and restored in 2004. I plan on starting to work on my coupe in November.

I now have it back at the shop and one of the first things I need to do is work on the front spoiler.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/208-1.jpg

I narrowed the fiberglass bumper so it fits tighter to the body. Another problem I had was to much gap on the right side where it met the quarter extension so I had to extend it.

It has been awhile since I worked on my car so this weekend we took out the 63 Galaxie 9" and narrowed it 2" so it would be the same width as a Mustang.

The rear was to close to the quarter in this picture

It's the new year I'm tried of not having a Mustang that I can drive so it is time to get this car running. I have gone round and round on engines and I do like FE's but I want something that I can drive and not have to stop for gas all the time. I have a 88 Mark VII that I bought new and was wrecked and has been sitting for over 3 years so we have decided to use the engine and trans in the Mustang. It needs a little cleaning.

Good call on the motor and getting the car running. I totally feel the same way about my Mach... I just want it done enough to start driving again and I'll continue working on it as I do. Fortunately for me, I've at least had my XR4TI to tide me over... when y'all gonna finish yours? :poke:

I don't know if I will ever be finished with my projects. The Mustang has been in storage we need to make room for it at the shop and start working on it in my spare time sometime this week. I need to finish the bodywork and paint it than install the drivetrain.

I can't wait for paint either but I still have a lot of work before I can start painting. I spent today block sanding the deck lid trying to get it to match the quarter. I will be painting it SPI red the same as my Fairlane. What can I say I like red.

Thats looking awesome! I have a 68 as well that I'm building w/ my daughter to give to my wife. I have a question if you dont mind answering, could you tell me what kind of under coating you used? Everything Ive found is a lot smoother, and there are some imperfections that I would like to cover up using a heavier coating.
also what size tire/ wheel combo are you using? Thanks

Bonding agent for headlight buckets and end caps? SEM Panel bond, 3m or ?

I molded the headlight buckets on and started to test fit the front apron and spoiler.

I don't like the big front spoiler so we started to trim it

This is close to the size I want we just have to blend it into the fender and add a small lip to give it a more finished look.

Making new fiberglass ends for the front end.

I taped a piece of aluminum on there for a pattern than added two pieces of fiberglass mat

The next day I carefully removed the aluminum

I have been looking at my grill moldings and thinking of doing this for a while now. I love the look and think it turned out great. How doesn't the paint line look up agains the unpainted lip or edge of the molding? Thats the only reason I haven't gone this route. I just can't see how you could get a clean finished look between the painted part of the grill and unpainted part. Post up so close ups if you can.

I painted all of the wide molding trim all you need to tape is the small center piece.

Rusty,

We have just wrapped up a new interior Kit for Mustangs. Here is a peak at the dash brow. We have all of the plug work done, we are currently making the molds. Keep in mind that this is a picture of a vac form plug, so everything below the router guide is trimmed away.

Looks real good. your making steady progress. I am building a 67 Fastback and thinking about adding coilover suspension front and rear. Just curious what your thoughts are on the coilover kit you installed in the back on your project? I think that kit is about the only real bolt in kit for a 67. I wonder if it will gain me enough clearance compared to the leaf spring rear for me to think about adding mini tubs.

It is a bolt in but we welded it in place. It will give you a little more clearance. You will have to modify the frame rail if you mini tub.

Hey Rusty, I am patching the cowl on my 67 Fastback and need to replace the inner kick panel area. Trying to decide to splice in(butt weld) in front of door post or remove the dash and replace the entire panel. How hard is it to remove the dash and get it back in exactly where it was located. Looks like two tabs, one on each side is spot welded to the lower kick panel side and then on the ends in the windshield post area. I was thinking of drilling a few 1/8" alignment holes to aid in getting it back in just the right position. I also have to make a couple patches where the pillar area overlaps the lower kick panel in the upper corner. Its thick metal and unique shape. Thinking to make it by cutting it in to 2 or 3 pieces that will be easier to shape and then weld together. I think I saw some pics where you guys fixed this area to. You by chance have the link or can post? Thanks

That bodywork and paint is amazing and like Leigh said, even the mask is off the charts. Love watching your updates too. Really lets me see how a reputable shop would do things. If it is not rusted out by the dash I would butt weld the side panels we have done that on a couple of Mustangs and it is a lot easier than removing the dash

Can you post a picture of area you are talking about? We have repaired the hinge area a few times.

I have the cowl removed and the top portion is in really good shape. I have the lower cowl end patch and th the lower kick panel area to replace. The upper corner l needs some attention and I don't have replacement pieces for this area so I guess I need to fab something up.

Having trouble uploading pics. Will figure it out and get a couple posted.

Here is the bad area upper right corner. The new lower kick panel goes up under this piece which I am replacing as well. Will probably just butt weld it in front of the door jamb. The area under this upper piece is rusty to so I will will probably need to make a patch underneath before i weld this in. Last picture is first attempt at a patch for this area. I won't weld it to the upper part until I remove and replace that. To replace the very bottum piece I may need to remove that whole piece that the door bolts thru to get at it good. thoughts?
