Hey guys, I am now proud to announce kode red racing’s latest project/headache. This one is a 86 chevy pickup that was bought from my older brother to give him some money after he lost his job and had another baby. Well after running around with the said 383 the more we drove the better the gauge numbers got until finally the oil pressure tacked out at a whopping 2 pounds of pressure… time for a re-build. After pulling it out of the truck got it tore down we found out... 383 it was not. More of a monstrous cam and 7 (yes I said only 7) new .40 over’s on a bone stock clunker. So we weighed our options out, Re-build the Saturday night nuker, or pull the motor out of… don’t laugh yet, our boat which we were trying to sell. The 400 has a full scat bottom end, probe pistons, dart heads, all the goods. So we did some soul searching for 3 minutes and then proceeded to start unbolting the 400. Now lets jump forward about past the fried head gasket and twisted drive shaft. To today, as I was working on the mustang I thought you know that truck really is a nice driver. Why let it sit (rotting inner fenders put a hold on driving in the swamp they call Florida) but why also spend a bunch of money on it when the big project is the car? That is where the name comes in… rattled, as in this truck is a bare bones, rattle canned, elbow greased, spare parted, auto stored monster. No custom CNC’d parts, no $300 dollar billet fuel logs, ECT. I don’t have a set budget but I will be keeping a tight leash I will post the price of the parts I buy and will tally it up. Now seeing as I am sort of in the middle of this here is where I am so far.

86 chevy truck – $4,000
400 small block – Free/already owned
Painted wheels/brushed lips - $14 for duplicolor wheel paint 1 can of graphite and 1can of clear/ the lips where done with a piece of 320 that was laying on the floor.
Black trim - $13 2 cans of duplicolor trim black paint
Harwood plastic fuel tank – Free/ already owned
2 holley fuel pumps (you can geuss what the second one’s for) – Free/already owned
NOS cheeter plate kit – Free/already owned
Mr.Gasket fuel pump block off plate - $5.89
Mr.Gasket fuel line kit - $38.99
Ultra seal intake gaskets (will get to that later) – $14.96
Holley power valve plug - $6.98
Holley carb bowl and metering gaskets -$ 19.88
Jegs water bypass kit – Free/ already owned
Electric fans (not sure on size) – Free/already owned
4 link tabs with links – Free/already owned
S10 V8 swap shorty’s - $149.99
So far that’s $ 4,263.69
I will say it is probably higher then that seeing as there are a few things like the driveshaft repair, the new yoke, and the second skin stuff that I don’t have a price on.
So on to the pictures.

Cool project, especially if you pull it off on the cheap. I love the square bodies.

Thanks guys, I hope to get the rear suspension done fairly soon. I want to C-notch the frame so I could eventually do air ride, but unless I find a good deal on a used set up I dont see it any time soon. Maybe I will notch the front cross member and cut another coil or two out of the spring to get it on the ground.

Yeah they are! When we first went to look at it after my nephew was born I really did'nt want much to do with it. But then the box bite me and I fell in love with it. I want to find a stock grill for it. I still hate the grille thats in the picture.

I kinda like the phantom grille. But you can get repops or OEM grills. I like Classic Parts for square body parts.. have them send you a free catalog if you havent already.

I bought my c10 as a beater and of course its getting all decked out since I got bit too. Mines being done on a tight budget too... its all part of the fun.

I looked at year one and goodmark a new grill will run me I think it was around $130 for everything a little pricey for just a grille but I got a hit last night on a powerglide trans I am selling for $200 so I may take that money to put into the grille, If it sells that is.

I like a 2" cowl on almost any Chevy.

I want to replace it with either a flat hood or a 2 inch cowl. The guy that did that hood did a bad job on it, so it's crooked and there is either a good bit of filler or fiberglass leading up to it. I am trying to find out what that color is so I can patch the little bubbles on the cab corners and put another hood (full fiberglass hopfully... the hood thats on it is stupid heavy)

Not much progress yesterday I was having a slow day.

We did figure out we were wrapping the crap out of the leaf springs. Long story short when we would launch the rear end would wrap up and smack the drive to the cross member. So 4 link goes in no wrap no more drive shaft hitting.

I will get some more pictures today to show off the black trim.

Ok it took a few days longer to get the pictures. But as I said.

I pulled the intake off last night so I could drill the holes for that bypass kit. Then I realized that the last time I had the intake off (to replace a head gasket) I only cleaned up the ports before I got bored and put it back on this time I am port matching them. I may also blast the intake again.

Zombie thread back from the dead. Hows this thing coming?

Hey guy’s

I wanted to stop in here and let everybody know that this build is not dead and is actually coming along pretty good, and with a different twist!!

We are still on a budget but now I am going as crazy as I can on the no cash status! To give you guy’s the low down, my brother is getting a bonus for Christmas and says he is buying it back... well that was brought to my attention about a month and a half ago, well as of around two months ago the truck was completely stripped! And had the front clip cut off and sitting on the ground!!!!

Ok I have not gotten very many pictures as of lately but to fill you in.

The frame has been Z’d 3 inches in the front
2 inches of the frame has been cut off the bottom
It has been boxed with 3/16 plate
The rear has been C’d enough to hopefully allow laying body with I hope up to a twenty inch rim, just don’t hold me to that!

What is left to be done.

I need to finish the rear suspension
Do a small mini tub to fit the wheels and tire I have now
The firewall needs to finished getting smoothed
The interior is stripped the dash needs painting
The wiring is in extreme need of a make over
I need to do a transmission mount a well as cut the tranny tunnel to fit it’s new higher position
The exhaust needs to be done
I need to get it over to the blasters to get blasted and primed the rattle canned!!

I know there’s probably a lot more I just don’t want to think about it right now!!

So that the jest of things. From what I have been told Jeffery wants to get the truck as a present at the end of the month… My first thought was kiss my as~ I trying to be a good person!

So needless to say if there’s anybody in Tampa/Brandon area of Florida wanting to be a good person or get a good laugh at me frantically thrashing pleas feel free to swing by! My helping hand left for the Airforce a few weeks ago!

For those who have a Facebook I have a few pictures there http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=myuploads

I will be sure to get picture tomorrow to update you guys.
Sorry for the EXTREMLY long post but it has been a while!

Well thanks to the holidays I have not been able to really work on the truck, but I did get the cab and fenders on.

But here a few pictures of the cab on, after everything slows down after the holidays I will continue the thrash!

Yeah the wheel well on these things could stuff a Kia and still have plenty of clearance! I wish I could keep it, and do a LS swap and go all out with 22's and what not but I do not have the cash flow and have to many other projects.

I should have some more progress here in the next week or so I should start working on it again. I may see about selling the current wheels and tires and some other spare parts I have laying around and using that money to buy a bigger set of wheels and tires.

Thanks
Kody

This is ProTouring: 22's and 24's...

Don't know if I could go that big, I did look at some 20" KMC rockstar cars and some 20" KMC nova's I like both and they are very good bang for the buck.

Here is a link to the wheels.

What do you guys think?

This is ProTouring: 22's and 24's... I think you have the P/T concept all wrong. Note that most builds are going to 18's or maybe 18/20's to reduce unspring weight.

The KMC Nova is clean and simple wheel that would look good on anything. The Rockstar is pretty cool too. Rather trendy, but still cool.

I like the Novas..not to big on the rockstars as every other 4x4 truck has them..But I dig your project!

Your thinking of the other rockstars those are a diffrent wheel, and yes they are very over used.

I like both I just have to get some cash to get new wheels.

I hear ya, I am on there for my daily driver (04 2500HD).

Well I put the front suspension on yesterday just to move it off the lift, I am wanting to list the old wheels and tires to hopefully fund the new wheels and tires. So if anybody is interested let me know!
