So the wife and I are leaving friday morning for carmel and coming back tuesday. We plan on doing the Hearst castle, 17 mile drive, the aquarium, and laguna seca (if theres time). This will be our first time in the monterey/carmel area. Is there anything going on this weekend we should know about? Is there anything that we shouldn't miss? Thanks in advance.

There's always something to do or see on the Monterey Peninsula although I don't know of anything major going on...nor is anything going on @ Laguna.
Bummer you won't be here next wknd though, there is a no-sound level green flag event going on.

Weather should be perfect,75-ish in the day and cool in the morning & evenings.

The aquarium is pretty cool, although I felt it wasn't nearly what the locals held it up to be. I thought the whole cannery row area/story was just as cool as the aquarium. We spent more time in the surrounding area.
There's a ton of good photo ops of cannery row, and nearby Fishermans wharf. We found there didn't appear to be one specific thing we had to do in Monterey, but were simply taking in the sights. The area was teeming with great cars and people. It was right before concourse de elegance so that may have had a little to do with it.

Hiking some of the trails around Big Sur was a great time.
If you've got some extra time, and want a short drive, I enjoyed a little further north in the Santa Cruz/ Capitola area. Great little coastal community.
