I'm in the process of swapping out the stock rear end in my 69 Firebird for a new Moser 12 bolt. The original one was mounted using a single "U" bolt in the outboard position and 2 "T" head bolts on the inboard ones.

I intend to use new parts, but was wondering if I should use the "U" bolts in both positions, or replicate the stock system of attaching the rear end to the springs.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Cheers,
Ken

Use two u-bolts per side, forget the t-bolts. GM probably did that to save $$$$.

Hotchkis provided 5/8 u bolts with their leafs. I like mine and if you look at the 4x4 manufacturers at Summit you can find these also...

u bolts are as close as your local auto parts store. the stock mounting plates are drilled for 7/16", i think (which is plenty strong) but 1/2" or even 9/16" are an easy upgrade with only a quick pass thru each hole with the appropriate drill bit.

stock was 7/16", just upgrade to 1/2" U-bolts, drill out the holes to 9/16" this will make assembly much easier, uni-bits/step drill bits are great for opening holes to the next size
