I assume 2nd gen F-body. Have those on my car too.

They are "bullet" style mirrors from the 70s. And, as neki67 said most likely from a 2nd generation Camaro or Firebird.

Frank commented about them in another thread, they are indeed 2nd Gen mirrors with the bases worked a little to fit better.

Hmm, I think the surface area is definitely smaller on the bullet mirrors.. You are right though, close call.

3gen mirror are better then 2gen mirror

3rd gen mirrors do not look as good 2nd mirrors and believe me visibility is far better with the 2nd gen mirrors compared to the first gen. Also cause the 2nd gen mirrors are so much more stable.

And idd you have to work on the base to make them fit better otherwise you're gonna have a first gen with the Ron Howard look from when he was playing in 'Happy Days'!

Nothing can be worse then the 1st gen mirrors. I swear I would be better off removing them and looking over my shoulder.

I am looking for something to replace mine with soon. They are REALLY bad.

Agreed Larry, I'm on my second set and they move and are worthless. I saw a link the other day to a company that makes a set that look factory but supposedly stay in place.

yea those 1st gen do stink, i would be driving and go to look in the mirror on the driver side and low and behold im looking at the center lines in the road instead of the cars behind me and then you have to reach out and fiddle with the mirror to get it to stay as your doing 65-70, so i had enough of that crap..... so what year and model second gen would be the best to get them off of?? and what kind of work to the base needs to be done in order for them to be right?? thanks-dom

70-81 all use the same model and so do a lot of other 70's Chevies. Pre-fit them and you will see that where the base of the mirror meets the body, the base needs a bigger angle. Just hold the base to a sanding belt in that particular angle. Pre-fit and sand a lot more and you're done.

A while ago I saw a guy using Mid 90's Buick mirrors on his 2nd gen Bird. He used these because they were elec. both sides and had them knobs to control them stuck in the factory holes in the door panel. Looked really sick, I wish I still had pics........

here are some pics of my 68 Firebird. I used mirrors from and Olds Aurora, they are power and heated. Not sure but you should be able to mount them so they clear the vent windows on a 67
