View Full Version : 67 "EBAY" Camaro

I figured I would start a project post to keep people updated with my new 67 Camaro. It was purchased off of EBAY and was supposed to be numbers matching, laser straight body, all new deluxe interior, rebuilt 327 with a rebuilt powerglide. Once I received the car I was really impressed with the interior, and all the new chrome/stainless but oh my god was the panel alignment and paint pathetic. Luckily due to some title issues I had the seller in a bad position so I received a large chunk of my money back. I have a guy who just moved to my neighborhood a few months back and we have become good friends and he is a master when it comes to paint. His dad also has a 68 Camaro that has numerous World of Wheels wins and they know Camaros. He has numerous magazine features and is redoing my Camaro. The plans are to remove the front clip, doors etc and re-align everything and repaint the entire car, door jams, trunk, inner fenders etc. Kevin at V8TV has me convinced to repaint the car Dupont Warp Speed Blue and the paint looks amazing! Once the front clip is off this evening we will start to install the new Tubular uppers and lowers, 12" disc Brake conversion, and 2" drop spindles. Here is a few pics of the car when I received it and where we are right now..

That's a good thing. I'd rather have a crappy paint job than rust.
Good luck and keep us posted.

It is right above your exhaust manifold on the passenger side. I have seen pic's of cars that had that glass filter crack over hot manifolds, not pretty. Get rid of that thing A.S.A.P!

...or get smashed by a flying broken belt or anything flying around loose in the engine compartment, they should be banned.

I just had Warp Speed Blue put on my Camaro too. Nice color with good metallic and pearl content.

Here is a progress photo, re-aligned all panels, installed front air ride, de-arched rear leafs. For some reason the pass side sits up 1-3/4 inch higher so we are trying to locate that problem now. We are leaning towards a drivers side bad leaf spring.

de-arched rear and you got that low?

crazyfireman
09-20-2009, 02:10 PM
yes that is de-arched mono leafs without and lowering blocks. That is why we are leaning towards the drivers leaf being bad.. Looks just how I want it to though!

MonzaRacer
09-20-2009, 02:32 PM
If ya got air in front just add in air over leaf kit and call it good J/K.
Heck just use ART all the way around then your golden.
Last 3 cars I aligned had dearched springs , not good, very bad in the ride department too.
But I am just an alignment specialist and really havent liked them ever.

crazyfireman
09-24-2009, 08:22 AM
After further investigation we found the difference in the rear was actually due to a front subframe being bent. Luckily Z06vet just happened to have bought a subframe for some misc parts and has what I need. So delayed again, replacing subframe!

crazyfireman
10-03-2009, 04:55 PM
New Subframe is in, left the motor and tranny in it, used a cherry picker off to the side worked great! Now just have to swap over the air ride and shoudl be re-assembling the sheetmetal tomorrow.

Moabdude
10-03-2009, 10:48 PM
How did you do the de-arching of the mono leafs?
I am thinking of doing the same.
How many inches did you de-arch them?

crazyfireman
10-04-2009, 02:04 AM
I took them to a suspension shop in Pensacola Fl. He has a machine/press and de-arched them 2.5 inches. I am unsure how they do it without changing the overall legth of the spring but it works great

We are actually starting on the body work and found this nice little jem that had been repaired using JB Weld... I am amazed of how good they did we barely could see it but the more we ground we discovered a nice little hole, and in a real weird spot. The rest of both quarters are great with the exception of this. I do not understand why someone would do this and actually take the time to smooth it out. It really was a good job we barely noticed it...

Well here is a picture fresh out of the booth, ready for the color sanding and re-assembly. This color is really badass but these pictures do not do it justice!! What my painter did was tape off some SS stripes and put a hint of pearl over it so when the light hits it just right or you are wearing polarized lenses you can see them.. Looks really cool.. Yes they are Coys, 18s and 20s and my painter is taping off the wheels and painting the spokes body color this week.. i am unsure how that will look but what the hell if they look too "Blingy" we can paint them silver

I watched my friends 40 ford burn almost to the ground at a stoplight all because he had a glass fuel filter that got too hot and busted spraying gas all over the engine. The first thing to burn was the wiring so then cutting the switch off didn't kill the motor. Engine kept running, fuel pump kept pumping, you get the idea. NEVER EVER run a glass filter on anyhting. I see them on custom motorcycles all the time and I try to buy every one of them. Some people never learn.

Turns out Kevin wasnt happy with the paint, so he sanded it back down, and is re-spraying it this Saturday. He used a booth at Hurlburt AFB and he said they have a nice booth but they do not take care of it at all. He said there was rags stuffed under the doors, filters were disgusting etc. So he is taking some extra supplies to fix those problems. I am so pleased with Kevin, I would have been fine with the job that was done but he wasnt. I will post pics again when done....

what backspaing and width are your front wheels. I have coys as well, however on my 68 firebird they do not tuck up in the fenderwell like yours. Wonder if it could be the control arms...because i need my car to sit like that.
