Hi

Iīm looking for a complete new steering for my Camaro -67 with Ls1 conversion.

I was thinking of an rack conversion first but after doing some research I think I will go for a new steering box with all new rods.

From what I found:

DSE have the "600 gear"

ATS have "ATS 670 Powersteering box" build by lee engineering

SC&C Call it "Lee 670"

ATS and SC&C seems to be the same, but is there any differens between them and the DSE box?
I like that the ATS and SC&C boxes are zink plated, DSE only have bare house or +$80 for ceramic coated.

I would like a kit with all new steering components: rag joint, tierods, idler arm, pitman arm, and tie rod adjusters.

DSE have this kit, but is it another box they got?

I have emailed Mark and SC&C but doesnīt got any answer if he could get me a complete kit, I havenīt tried with ATS though.

The reason I would like it all from the same supplier is that i live in Sweden and shipping are a big cost for each shipping ( ~$500 ) so I would like everyting to go in the same package.

I have heard the Lee valved Boxes are they way to go.

I would also like to know if the oxes are the same size or if thier are other options that provide better header fitment for LS engines.

I love my Lee valved box. SC&C will be able to get you everything you need and that is where my money would go if I were you.

Something to consider... The steering box will most likely drop ship from Lee. At least mine did. If you need everything to come in one package, make sure you ask Marcus. That way he can have the steering box shipped to him first.

We sell both, both are excellent, I personally prefer the 600 box feel. We can set you up with a package of everything.

Frank,

Can you explain the difference? I mean, one can assume that since the 600 and 670 boxes are both 600 Series boxes, they share similarities.

I know for a fact that the 800 series box is physically larger.

What do you prefer about the 600 box? My experience is merely with my stocker and the Lee built 670. The Lee box feels phenomenal.

Your boxes, are they box stock OEM boxes? One thing I like about the Lee box is they are essentially blueprinted.

Thanks!

I would also like to know what differens you have felt between the Lee 670 and DSE 600 box?

Frank, how do I contact you, PM or email?

there is no difference the 600 just reffers to the "series", just as some will advertize 12.7:1 ratio box as 12:1, if they wanted to round off they should call it a 13:1 but that would not fit the "more is better" moto

The cases are different. They are shaped slightly different. And while the 600 is a bit smaller in most dimension, it is a little thicker right at the cap on top of the housing. I just think the 600 box has more of a "Rack and pinion feel" .We just did a 67 Chevelle that had a 670 box we put on it 1000 miles ago and now put in a new ceramic coated 600 box. The orignal purpose for the change was mostly for appearance. But the owner swears the 600 feels better, but he might just be convincing hmself he did the right thing replacing a $525 box with a $600 box, LOL! I also like the ceramic box for appearance. My customer saw one here and had to have it.

Both are excellent and HUGE improvments over stock. Either will make the owner smile.

We only sell parts we like, and we sell them both.

I have been getting ready to pick up a new box for my 69 Camaro...I've got an LS1 with Stainless Works headers on it, that have the second primary wrapped on top to clearance the box...will the Lee box clear my headers?

I could not say for sure, but the 670 box has a few dimensions that are smaller, that may help in your case.
The mount points are the same physically, but the forward of the case is much smaller, if nothing else it should provide a bit more room than the stock one.
My car is not a Camaro, but the box should be the same one.
This one I got from SC&C, no disappointments, it looks great and fit right in.

If the 800 fits, the 600/670 should fit. I fit my headers to clear an 800 but after fabrication there was more clearance everywhere with the 600/670.

The 670 and "600" are exactly the same. The first refers to the specific model and the second refers to the series in general. I find that to be a bit misleading because there are many other boxes in the 600 series, some of which are very undesirable such as the light duty,no quick ratio version 605. "600" boxes sold by Delphi (the OE) and others are assembly line built and are quite good. The Lee 670 is hand built and blueprinted in every way. Each box is individually dynoed and tested on the benchtop. We don`t stock any boxes at all, prefering to take a list of information from each client which we pass on to Lee to custom build a box for that car and driver`s needs. The devil is in the details, the box must be valved to work perfectly with the specific steering pump/pulley combination you`re running or a great box can still feel mediocre. We have them valved differently for a pure street car, serious auto cross car or an open course road race car etc. That doesn`t just mean changing T bars, it means they tweak the size and shape of the internal ports as well to dial in the feel and response. Few places in the country have the knowhow to do that. Lee has been doing it for 46 years! The 670 is a great piece, outstanding feel and feedback, better in fact than most newer GM rack and pinions. The vertical part of the case is about the same size as an 800 series. No doubt because they have the same big. beefy sector shaft and bearings. The horizontal part of the box is smaller in dia. though which often helps with header clearance on 1st Gens. They`re 6.5 lbs lighter than an 800 too. :) Mark SC&C
