hi , a friend of mine gave me a 84 Corvette for free, but I cant keep the car since i have a 64 Cutlass (A-body) and its my current project, so i was thinking to pull the engine/trans and keep it, the question is what other(s) part do you guys recomend me to pull from this vette? is the something I can swap in my Olds besides engine/trans ? :dunno: I live in Guatemala.
thanks

i wish someone would give me a free Corvette.
unless your Cutlass doesn't actually run now, i wouldn't even bother with the crossfire 350. but if it has the 4+1 manual trans in it, that might be kind of cool in an old Cutlass.
if you wanted to get really adventurous, you could take the front and rear suspensions out and put them under the Cutlass, but that would be a LOT of work.
maybe grab the brake rotors and calipers. those are fairly easy to put on old GM cars.

the 84 parts will transfer up. I say strip it keep the doors. the rear class and hood all used to be $$$ for body shops.

If you are not really interested in anything for yourself and you are willing to put some time in put the whole car on www.corvetteforum.com in the C4 parts for sale section as "parting out '84 Corvette". I don't know how bad the car is but you can could stand to make yourself a few dollars.

I paid $500 for the last 86 I bought. It had Z51 and the 4+3 and the TPI L98. I kept what I wanted and sold off the rest for a tidy profit. Ebay and Craigs list are your friend!!!

I have an 85 vette and I would not use the 4+3, it is junk. I had mine rebuilt twice in 7 years and it only works when it feels like it. The crossfire is less than desireable but could be rebuilt to be mean. I think it would be very cool if you put the rear in your A body. The rest you could part out and make some good cash.
Good luck and congrats on your free car. I am still waiting for someone to want to give me a car...

i was thinking to use the 350 L83 as a base for a pair of vortec heads, a good manifold /carb combo, is it true that this engine has forged pistons? also , how can i put the rear end in my A body or the front brakes ? thanks for the replies
which engine is better (block , crank , pistons)?
a 1995 350 from a suburban (non vortec) or the 350 from the 84 vette?

the 95 350 will have better parts in it, and may even be set up for a roller cam.

95 wont be roller unless very very lucky but will have everything to bolt to for in stalling hydraulic roller.
As for me I like to rebuild the CrossFire and run 2bbl throttle bodies sideways , it wont feed a big engine a lot without lots of porting ,BUT it looks good and the last one we installed on a 327 and it will pull hard to 6500, but took work.

i know the 95 truck motors aren't roller cam equipped- but it might be ready for a roller cam.
actually, the 95 block might not be set up for a roller cam- some of them had all the roller cam stuff there, some were machined, and others don't even have any of the provisions at all.
but even if the 95 doesn't have the roller cam provisions, it still has the one piece rear main seal, better alloy in the block, and newer PM connecting rods.

I really wouldn't bother. '84 was a strange year. GM did a lot of mid-year changes to the car it and as a result a lot of parts have been unavailable for 20 years. Especially in the suspension.
Was a cool car when it first came out. Be there are good reasons that stuff changed drastically in 85,86 & 87
