Has anyone sold their car to a buyer located abroad and is so how was the selling experience? What type of payment did you take? Thanks

Agree with wire transfer only. You could also go to a bank that offers free checking accounts and setup a new account, just in case, also. It'll only take 20-30 minutes to set one up.

I sold a racecar to a guy in Denmark about 15 years ago and used the wire transfer method. Super easy and your bank knows right away if everything is legit.

I'm from the Netherlands and just bought a car from S4Dustin so perhaps you can also ask him how he perceived the deal. I've always wire transfered the money and informed the seller of each and every step taken just to keep communications good and build trust. You also might ask the buyer who's gonna ship the car for him so that you can track/check whether it's a reputable shipper or not. You have to send title and bill of sale to them so that they can properly process the paperwork.

Don't forget; there's normally more risks for the buyer than for the seller. Buyer has to send money and after that's confirmed he just has to hope that he will get the vehicle he purchased . . . .

This is true. I bought my Mustang locally here in Australia as I was hesitant to go through the potential trauma of bying and importing a car from the US. paid a little more, but half the headaches gone.

That said I plan on buying my next car in the US, and hopefully it shall be relatively painless. Theres plenty of legitimate and honest buyers overseas, so don't fear selling overseas. Good communication and wire transfers seem to be the way to go.

I sold a 1977 930 Porsche to a guy in Denmark ealier this year using Wire Transfer. As long as you can verify the funds are in your account, everything should be fine. We agreed that I would FedEx the title and paper works to the shipping company's home office within 1 business day of receiving the funds.

I sold one of my harleys about two years ago to a guy in Germany...He wired the money to my account and the truck picked it up about a week later....no issues at all.
