All the kewl project names are taken...lol This is the other truck were doing here at R.A.W. RODS 70 C10 big block truck. The truck started out as a long bed and now is a short bed. My customer already had a short frame to go under it, a new short bed was orders with the wood floor. The truck was bought new by his grandfather and was passed to his dad and them him. He's going with the stock colors orange with a black upper cab and lowering it 4" all around with 18" wheels. Here are the picture as it has come in to the shop.

The rockers are pretty bad so I pulled them off to sandblast and found well more rust.

As you can tell the more I blast the more rust that pops up. Some pretty bad rust were the A/C was mounted.

Today I got some of the rust cut out of the fire wall and made a few patch panels.

Filled the hole in the cab for the gas neck. It will be moved under the bed.

Just checking the fit for now.

Also had to replace part of the supports under the cab.

so what kind of blaster are you using?

so what kind of blaster are you using?

Its a EMPIRE Presser Blaster. Works great if you have the Air Compresser to support it. I can run this thing for 1 hr with a 100 pound bag of Black Beauty Sand. I have one of there big cabinets too and love it.

So that type of sand is okay on large body panels? What pressure do you run to it?

Will it take undercoating off?

Some undercoatings are a pain to get off. Most of it on this truck came off pretty good but there was a lot I had to strip off by hand then blast. They make stuff to spray on undercoating to get it off but I like heat and a sharp blade or you can use a wire wheel. As for how much pressure, I go around 110 psi for frames and things that I know will not warp, but for fenders cab's I turn the presser down and dont blast on one panel too long. If you do your heading for trouble. After blasting we still go over the metal with 80g paper and then DP90. I really didnt want to spend the money on one but now Im glad I did. Now I dont have to hurt my fingers in the hard to reach places. I asked the guy about the sand and said it was fine to use and is safer for your lungs( STILL WERE A FILLTERD MASK). DO NOT USE PLAY SAND like at lowes I know people do but dont. When you go into a place that sells this kind of stuff they will have all kinds of sands for you to look at for what your doing. I hope this helps you out.

Don't know what your plan is for the gas door but, I worked at a shop where we used a gas door and arm (from a 90s something) and cut it down to bolt behind the left bed side marker ligh. Put a blazer tank under the bed and used a early model blazer inner tube cover in the bed to "hide"0 the tubes and such. wish I had pics it work out pretty slick. We also used one of those gas caps you don't have to take off, it has the little door built in. Anyway just a thought and rambling. You are haulin on this truck. Are you taking a break from the ford?

The Ford is waiting for the A/C to come in, so parts are getting block sanded. My customer is using the blazer tank and wanted to put the gas door in the tail light but went with a floor mount cap in the bed. Im using the gas cap that has the trap door on the Ford.

Thanks guys I should have some more pictures tomorrow.

Bed went together pretty good. Some of the holes had to be redrilled to get the side to line up but thats it. Made a cart to set the bed on and got it in some primer today.

Should make for a super nice C10 when finished. My first ride was a 69 SWB CST. I have owned several since then, and have been contemplating selling my 70 Camaro Project again to buy another C10.

Here are a few shots of the frame. This truck was a long bed but we found a short frame had it blasted and powdercoated. As you can see the redone 402 big block is in and a few upgrades to go with it.

Very clean and detailed. Nice!

Sounds like having screw on bed panels makes for quick change outs for rust. Not a bad idea if you ask me. Are there downsides though?

No downsides at all. Even the stock bed is bolted together, but instead of using the old hex head bolts I Installed S.S. button heads for a clean look.

Bed is on and fits really well. Ive been really happy with the after market panels. I had to put a 1/8in shim on the passanger side of the cab to get the lines right, but for now it looks great. Looks like the new B.B. valve covers are going to clear and Ill be using a smaller power booster so looks like its good to go.

I ment to post this up earlier but just didnt have time. Ive started hanging the front metal to see how every thing is going to fit. Were going to stop at this point so we can finish pulling the 63 f100 apart for paint.
