I have a 67 Camaro w/ 500HP Gen 1 SBC, TKO 600, 9" w/ 4:11 TSD.
I am using GW 1/2" drop sub-frame bushings. The trans cross member can not be installed or removed without loosening the sub- frame bolts and dropping the frame. What do you think about mounting the cross member under the frame brackets not on top?

That will look terrible because it will be visible from the side. You'll also have to figure out how to get the exhaust past the xmember if you do that. I wouldn't recommend going under it if you mounted it on the bottom of the subframe

I guess I wasn't clear. Not to the bottom of the sub frame (Martz Sub-frame), just to the bottom of the bracket welded to the frame. It would only lower the cross member 3/8". I am concerned about the strength of it being bolted to the underside of the bracket, not the top.

If 3/8" more clearance is enough then I wouldn't hesitate. The bolts are what hold it together. The fact that it usually goes on top just makes it easier to rest the tranny while you adjust it to slip the bolts in.
