When replacing the outer wheel housing in a rusty quarter panel, how important is it to match the outer lips perfectly? The problem I am having is that 80% of the original lip is non-existant. The quarter has also received lower patch panels in the past. The outer wheel house (American made, from Rick's) fits perfectly around the rear half of the wheel opening, but does not quite match the contour around the front half. There is a gap between the housing and the front half of the wheel lip of about 1/8-1/4 inch when the housing is fully seated to the mounting flanges in the interior (the housing looks like it needs to go further outward). I've tried everything. Since the housing fits good everywhere else, can I weld it in and worry about aligning it with the wheel lip when I have the quarter replaced, or should I try to align it perfectly with the factory quarter?
