Working passive entry with Push to Start

After following several threads with a lot of interest I decided to take what I had learned from them and try to complete a setup of my own. I had read the threads and gleaned some good info but kept screaming for more detail.

Well here is what I came up with....... All for about $100. Found most of these parts off of Ebay for ease of acquisition, may be had for less other places.

Omega K9 Sombra RFID alarm system - $49
DEI 611T Latching or Timed relay - $15
DEI 528T Timed relay $11
(you could just use 2 of the 611T's if you wanted to)
4 SPDT 30/40 amp relays $6 (~1.50 each)
Momentary switch - Red LED - $14

I created 3 pages of crude wiring schematics, please be nice when you see them. :hail:
I have learned so much while building my '67 Camaro from this group that I thought I would try to give a little back. I have tested this and it seems to work well for what I want to do. I can activate the alarm with the RFID key in my pocket, (Look Ma, no hands) have it unlock the doors and activate the circuit for the switch. One push and release will turn on the ignition circuit if you did not want to start right away. Another push would turn it off. Push and hold will turn on the ignition and then the starter until the button is released.

I will try to answer any questions, and maybe some of the more sophisticated electrical guru's might have suggestions for improvement.
I think I need to have higher capacity 50 amp or even 80 amp relays for the ignition and/or starter circuits. Suggestions??

Good morning, I want to put together a system like the one you put together, it's simple and to the point, using the Omega K-9 makes it so affordable! My question to you is: Does it provide for an accessories position? Since you have been at it for while, how has it worked? Have you inproved on it? What kind and brand switch are you using? I'm really excited to get this project rolling! So any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. As far as your concern with the capacity of your relays, the ignition should be okay, the starter does draw some more amps, you can check what it draws with one of those meter that you place on top of the wire of the circuit you are testing. Since you are working on a Chevy it might not be too much sinde you have a solenoid on the starter and that solenoid is what it's being excited. Thank you and happy motoring!!! Richard

I agree that an acc option would be very useful. This is incredible I started trying to figure out how to do this and you just saved me a lot of time capbuster, thank you very much.

After review of your diagram it looks like the acc is automatically activated when the alarm deactivates. Which I think could work well. The only thing I am having trouble understanding is the momentary switch. It looks like you are using a 3 wire led switch (mine is a 3 wire as well). But in the diagram it looks like you have power from the relay to the switch and then ground, but the actual switch wire goes to ground? If someone could help me to understand this as I am sure that I am viewing this incorrectly.

Subscribing, I was getting ready to spend 400 on a system. I have a 73 Firebird and an Flaming river tilt column no key. The problem is I have shaved door handles. So I need something with buttons too. But this is interesting if I can figure a way to make it work.

For the remote opening any of the good alarm remote starts could be used for entry. Including one of the RFID or Remote ID units would be functional.
I have an Avital 991 alarm/remote start and as for replacing the key and other things it wouldnt be very hard, especially if you used something like the MiMod HP touch screen switches but thats a little more pricey.
I am going to look into more affordable units in the near future. Possibly even start building something.
The big issue is layering security into the car so easy starts are not available for the criminal type.
Make it hard to steal and the only way to steal it is take the whole car with out starting.

What Kind of range are you getting on the RFID and does it lock after you're out of range? I've done a bit of searching and there doesn't seem to be to many options for doing this as a kit...
