I seen a small blurb in one of the recent mags about a new SCCA class specifically for american V8 muscle cars. I want to say that there are only like 6-8 events this year, but I can't find the dam mag! :scared:

There's also NASA (https://www.nasaproracing.com/). They have two classes, American Iron (http://www.americanironracing.com/) and Camaro-Mustang Challenge (http://www.camaromustangchallenge.com/).

They use a hp/weight ratio to equal the playing field in order to let the "little guys" stay competitive. Looks like fun... and nowhere near here. :crying:

Oh, there's also the Viper-Vette Challenge (https://www.nasaproracing.com/proracing/vvc.html)

Rich,

I think there is an event at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Give Tim Laplante a call.

He's an old racing friend of mine from California. I believe he coordinates the series in the Ohio region now.

Racers- Come join us for an exciting weekend of racing at the new Autobahn road course (www.autobahncountryclub.net)*outside of Chicago May 21/22. Oh great. I really want to run in this, but my car breaks the rules even in the Unlimited class. I see a need for some more race parts that conform to these rules for 1st gen owners though...

Hey Brion,
Im also considering running but it seems the rules are very strict. Right now im green but want to race other than open track days. I have an 84 Camaro with a 5.7L 300 HP GM crate motor, and 17x9.5 front and 17x11 rear rims but everything is based stock. I get my a$$ handed to me in unlimited...is there any in between classes.

Tyler and Vince bring a good point, but I think it would be tough for AV8SS (or NASA, SCCA, for that matter) to open up new classes just for our types of cars. I don't think there'll be enough interest/participants.

Out of 1200+members here, how many people regularly participate in OT/auto-x, let alone participating in this racing section? Those who are serious enough about racing will usually build dedicated racecars that conform to the rules (like Sean aka PAI Racing).

That said, it sure would be nice if there was some sort of "in-between" class with more freedom on engine swaps and chassis mods, perhaps with regulation for hp/weight ratio, tire-rim size/weight, etc to level out the competition. And more racing on west coast too.

Just voicing my opinions...

You know, I don't see why there is such an aversion to running in Super Production (SCCA) or Super Unlimited (NASA). I hear people complain that they are going to get smoked by turbo porsches and tube cars, but the reality is, you still get to run on the track and if you show up for a lot of events you still have a shot at the championship.

The guy who won the SoCal NASA SU title last year was driving a 2wd Talon (or Laser?). The car was slow (I'm not trying to be a ball breaker, just making a point) and he won because he showed up consistently. So, if you want to get on the track and race, try SP/SU and if you want to win, try being consistent and going to all the races.

Additionally, NASA and SCCA now have time trial events where you can compete, on race tracks, but not go wheel to wheel. Its like the old Solo I (I think they called it) or hill climbing. A good way to go and test your mettle without contact.

OTC seems like the perfect venue for PT cars. Drive from event to even and dominate in the street car classes. I think that would be awesome (and a ton of work!).

I was looking at the NASA TT rules a ways back, just educating on where I will most likely run the 69. They have a pretty cool system that puts you in higher classes based upon certain mods, such as tires and HP, etc. With my car, and it is not as severe as some of the other PT cars, I'd be in the very top fast class. Oh well, but as Sean says, lots of guys with fast cars often only go to a couple of events. And! Lots of the really fast cars break and don't finish. Sean also gave me a really good piece of advise when making a decision on hopw to build a car relative to the rules of various sanctioning bodies: build the car YOU want, and you'll find a place to run. Building around someone's rules will usually leave you with a car that you would probably have built differently, has compromises, etc.

And by all means, when you're done, DRIVE I!

NASA is all we have out here on the West Coast. The TT series is what I'm working for, but you have to work your way through the HPDE. There is a guy named Shawn who runs a '73 BB Trans Am that kicks butt! The CMC, and AIX don't allow 1st or 2nd Gen Camaro's. So when I go to those events all I see are Mustangs stomping all over has been IROCs...Although there is ONE ray of light out there if you're a Camaro fan, but I don't remember his name.

I have run the NASA TT - it is open passing - point by recommended but not required. It is very, very close to wheel to wheel racing - but it is not! Contact does occasionally happen with something though!:hand:

Subject: Av8ss at SCCA's prestigious American Road Race of Champions(ARRC)

The American V-8 Supercar Series is proud to announce it's inclusion into the SCCA's prestigious American Road Race of Champions(ARRC). This historic once a year event began in 1964 at the Riverside road course. After many iterations and lapses, the event has been hosted by Road Atlanta since 1994, catering to those SCCA classes not invited to the runoffs. This year's event will be held November 10/11/12. In 2005 there were over 350 race entries and the 2006 participant estimate will certainly exceed that.

This is a tremendous opportunity for the AV8SS racers to measure themselves and their machines against some of the best road racers and race cars in the country. The AV8SS looks forward to making this an annual event for many years to come. Any racers interested in attending please contact Dan Schlickenmeyer at [email protected]. Additional information about the event is available at www.arrc-online.com.
