I should have my new wheels anytime (hoping for delivery today). I got the Team 3 mini-lite replicas in a 15" wheel. Already have the mickey thompson S/T tires here (mounting them with white letters out).
I have no stripes on the car now.
Any ideas on how I could take the trans-am theme a bit further with some decals? I don't want to take it too far, but think if I had a shop make up some vinyl decals to put on the car, it might look cool. If not, then I could remove them.
I was thinking something a bit more than a couple meatballs with numbers...but don't know how far to take it.
I found this site with some cool pics from the historic races.

Thoughts or ideas?
Main question - Cool or Cheesy idea?
Edit...my wheels arrived, so here's what the car looks like now.

If you like the look then go for it.....Might consider some kind of headlight cover for daytime use.....

I did the same with my '69. 15" Minilites with vintage Goodyear and Champion decals. I got some of those magnetic sheets from a local sign shop, mounted the stickers, and cut to size. Easy on, Easy off.

are 15" wheels even allowed on here?
looks killer just as it sits. no need for any decals or stripes.

I had 18's & 20's...but got tired of the look. If I had 18's all the way around, I would have kept them...but the 20's were just too big for my liking.

15" wheels are great !
And yes ,
Anything is allowed on here..
This site is about acceptance ..
LOL
15" wheels are great as long as they are functional.
Most 20" wheels are just for looks and the extra weight/mass diminishes their performance.

i like the 15s. i really wanted those wheels but went a cheaper route and stole the 16s off my 95 mustang. looks great.
i like the idea of the magnetic stickers.
you could also have someone do a vinyl sticker for you that you could remove later if you got tired of it. I know a guy in San Diego if you are in the area?

I had a friend of mine make up some for my road legal '72 T/A racer, maybe this'll give you some inspiration. I had period SCCA, & Trans Am championship decals made, along with various other period pieces, cheers.....Nige

If you get the magnetic ones you may not be able to use them on track if you go. They have a tendency to blow off at speeds over 100 MPH.
I put on and take off the stickers on my car. I have them made at a local sign graphics place thats part of a chain of franchises. http://www.signarama.com/ I get the stickers done in what they call a low pressure adhesive so they can be easily removed. In the beginning I just put them on for track days so I wouldn't have tape numbers in pictures. Then one weekend several years ago I was at Road Atlanta for a NASA weekend and Year one was having a big cruise night that Sat night after the track day. I took the car with the numbers still on it and everyone thought it was the coolest thing so now the car has been stickered up most of the time. I switch stickers and layouts for different track events and then leave them on for a while afterward. Sometimes It's got the drag look, Road race look, or land speed racing look. Here's the current look I'll be changing before I go to Palm Beach International in a few weeks. http://hendricksportsphoto.smugmug.com/gallery/8674154_vLFpm#575197723_nQGGD

Cool idea...I hadn't thought of magnetic ones. There's a sign shop pretty close to where I live. I'll have to stop by to see what their capabilities are.
A few large meatballs and maybe some vintage company logos would be kinda cool.

Guys I am a sign guy I dont like magnets they tend to attract dust and if you use them long enough when you pull them off it looks like you just scuffed up a area to paint. Signs shops are everywhere easy enough, look for lo-tack vinyl or re-useable printed decals like the Fathead stickers you see on tv.
They do tend to cost more but are worth it.

Minilites with white letter tires look good.
I've always wanted the Vintage Trans-Am look for my car.
I just wish somebody made an 18" minilite wheel copy and an 18" performance tire with white letters..
( couldn't you see a Toyo R888 with white letters ? )

Holy thread resurrection batman!
Thanks for the comments. Love the Sunoco Camaro...wish someone made those windshield retainers in a billet aluminum.
Like the 69 with the mini-lites too. I still love the fact that I can go to a car show with a ton of 1st Gens and you don't see any with the mini-lites.

I always liked the Minilite style rims...they suit these cars nicely. This is my old 70 RS/SS 4 speed.
