Four Hurst/Olds were stolen from two hotels at the Hurst/Olds Club of America national meet early Saturday morning in Indy.

Two other people had the locks cut off their trailers Saturday night/Sunday morning at another hotel and the trailers opened. Luckily, nothing was taken there.

The cars were a '79, two '83s, and an '84. All T-top or sunroof cars. They attempted to steal another '84, had punched the door lock out and gotten into the car, but ended up bailing before getting it started.

Pretty clear these guys were good at it... they scoped it out ahead of time, knew exactly what cars they wanted, showed up and were gone within minutes. They have it on the surveillance tape at the hotel. Thieves suck. Hopefully they catch these guys...

Heres Detailed info on tBetween 1AM and 4AM on Saturday, August 8, 2009, FOUR Hurst/Olds were stolen from 2 hotel parking lots adjacent to each other in Indianapolis, Indiana. There were over 125 H/O’s in attendance for the Hurst/Olds Club of America 25th National Meet. This was a calculated "hit", not a random crime. The thieves knew we were going to be there, they knew which cars they wanted, they knew what they were doing and they got us!

It took them less than 1 minute to gain entry to a car, have it running and leaving the parking lot. They used a white crew cab pick up truck and drove into the lot and parked like they were a guest. One person exited the truck and hit the car, then both left. They went back and forth from one hotel to the other, not raising suspicion. This was evident from reviewing the hotels security tapes. Following is a list of the cars with unique features about each. All of the cars had a roof option.

Ouch, that sucks.

I feel bad for the guys but I also can't imagine owning a 78-87 GM car without also owning a CarGuard or other similar steering column clamshell whenever it would be parked in public. The 78-87 columns are a 10 second tops smash-and-start affair with a small ball peen hammer and a slotted screwdriver once you're in the car... I learned that when I was 11 years old and the cops recovered my mom's stolen 87 Cutlass. I looked at the column and thought "wow, that's easy!"

Hope they catch the guys.

I hate thieves as much as anybody else. #1 reason to have a professional appraisal done and great insurance just in case...

Why can't we hang car thieves like they used to hang horse thieves?
