This event looks to be very similar to the Good Guy's Costa Mesa event. That is, it's at the OC fairgrounds and more importantly, looks to have an autocross. Instead of the "Street Challenge Autocross" that is hosted by Goodguy's and various other sponsors, this is the "Road Challenge Autocross."

The show is meant for pre 1978 cars, but maybe they'd let my '79 slide. I really don't know any other details. I'm assuming anyone in the show can run the autocross as there is no separate autocross sign up form.

Does anyone else have any more details on this event?

I would like to go and participate in the autrocross. I emailed OCCA for more information on how to register. I will post of the information when I receive it.

UPDATE: I received a message from OCCA-

The AutoCross is free to entrants in the car show. You can register online at www.occa-inc.com or the day of the event at the fairgrounds. It's $35 for one day and $55 for the weekend. There is no limit to how many times you can run on the autocross track. You will however have to pass a "safety" tech before running. It's simple things like; is the battery tied down, no loose items in cars, no passengers...etc.

Not sure- nothing detailed on their website about it. Usually street challenge stuff is 200 with a min 3/32" tread.

I hate events that make you join their assocation. It's a once a year event, so you'll have to join next year. It's just an added fee with some small goodies and a newsletter that is really advertising for the next show. It's not a club with events. Just a show run by the owner of OCCA.

So.... It's a $55 two day autocross with a show. Wonder how many runs you'll get on the course? Is it about a sub 40 sec course?

I agree with you about the membership deal. I see the event as more for show with a bit of autocross thrown in. If they use the same area as Good Guys the course will be around 30 seconds. Not sure about how many runs you may get.

You're right, it's a show with an autox. And not a bad value for two days even at $55.

But I just wish they just came out and said it's $55. The added "fees" are just a way as not to sticker shock you with the straight $55 entry fee. Don't sneak up on me.

Oh yes, that's another way that it is very much like the Goodguys event. The Goodguys event was more expensive for me though I could possibly made the other event at Pleasanton.

Any updates on this one? The date has really snuck up on me. I thought I might try out new wheels and tires at this event, but I'm trying to sort out my school/work schedule first.

At any rate, here's a page with more autocross details

I wont be making this event with the car. My tires are roasted from the last outing and I have not received my new ones yet. I will be there for a few hours checking out the show.

Aww, too roasted for a 35 second autocross course? (the bigger concern would be the drive to and from the venue of course)

My poor little 215s were stretched and melted with about 1/8" of tread depth on the outer half of the tire BEFORE you deep fried them! :) Im a member of team positive camber gain!

To clarify my own situation, my whole weekend is up in the air. I'm going to try to do last minute photoshoot related things (the PHR contest deadline is Saturday!!!) which involves mocking up the hoodscoop despite not having addressed the real clear hood clearance issues yet.

Then on Saturday, there's a 5k memorial run for a member of my high school cross country team that also serves as sort of a reunion. There's also a wedding at my church that I could go to, but probably won't.

I'll at least definitely be at the show on Sunday where I'll try the one day registration, hoping they wave my 1979 car.

The last complication is that I'm tempted to borrow my Mustang's more aggressive BFG G-Force Sports and mount them on the TA's wheels (both are 15 inch wheels that would accept the 225 mm wide tire) for the event, which is just another thing to worry about . . . probably won't actually get that one done. Oh yea, and school just started. Blah.

So did anybody go? I got there at about 11 AM on Sunday.

The show was similar in size to the Goodguy's one, but there weren't as many cars. The autocross was in a different location, but smartly used the same idea of reusing sections of the course. It was sort of a 1.5 lap setup. Unlike Goodguys, there were no long sustained turns. Instead, there were 2 turns that were somewhere between 90 and 135 degrees depending on your approach (each of which would be driven twice.)

The competition was nowhere near the level of the Goodguy's event. I think all of the really quick cars (there were only a couple) with good tires were vendor cars.

The quickest car at the event was a fastback Mustang from Barry's speedshop. It was well driven and set up pretty well.

As for times, the course was a high twenty to mid 30 second course. My very first run was a clean 32.2 and my quickest was a 30.600. Well, actually my quickest was a 30.47x but I killed two cones on that run. The quickest run of the event, a 26.9, was made by the afforementioned Mustang. However, three cones were killed in that run. The quickest clean run was a high 27, again from the Mustang.

This brings me to another point: cone carnage. (conage?) The white lines that outlined the general shape of the course were pretty smooth and average. The cones did not necessarily sit on these lines and instead jutted way out, making corners much sharper and trickier. I hit cones on well over half of my 40 (yes 40 in the course of 6 hours!!!) runs. I'd approach the corner, lose sight of the cone I was trying to go around behind my passenger door, begin to smoothly let off the brake (ideally at least), try to focus on the exit or trackout point, turn in, roll into the throttle to help the car rotate a bit, and then pray I didn't hear that annoying thunk. I saw no car that consistently made clean runs. At the Goodguys event, I hit a total of 3 cones, all in 1 run. Today, I couldn't even count. There was just really bad cone rash along my door before the right rear tire. 5 of my last 6 runs were clean at least.

Very little this weekend went according to plan, but in the end, it all worked out quite wonderfully. I'll have pics and videos up later, perhaps in a new thread in the media section?

ah good to hear! I'm kind of hoping some footage of my car might pop up on youtube, assuming someone actually took a video.
