Need a new Carb

I think I'm done messing with this 20 year old holley on my car and want to buy a new carburator, currently the one i have is a 850 DP with mech secondary's and no choke, I waas looking at this one from Proform, its an 850 DP mech secondary with a electric choke, my question is has anyone here had any experiance with Proform good or bad?

I have a new BG speed demon 850 mechanical secondaries and electric choke I am going to sell. It came with my crate motor and have decided to go fuel injection. Let me know if you are interested.

A friend had a proform carb, or at least the proform metering blocks. He had big problems with tuning them and finally went to another brand. The story was the Proform block passages are drilled and there are internal burrs that affect fuel flow. I don't know if this is true, but check the performance section on http://WWW.camaros.net

I'd lean towards a Holley or BG carb myself.

Cliff can custom-build you an 800 cfm Q-jet that will easily run with or even out-perform a Holley for about the same price. They flow around 840 cfm with the choke blade removed.

Better gas mileage too.

But most folks won't even look twice at one because they don't look 'race-oriented' like a Holley.

This one originally came off a '77 350 Pontiac 170 HP low-compression smog engine, believe it or not it's an 800 cfm unit. It feeds a hungry 455 with ease.

Proform carbs are OK. No problems here. I take them apart clean, and blueprint all carbs before installation though. I would buy a Barry Grant over the Proform if I was buying new. Call the tech dept @ Barry Grant, tell them your combo details and BUY what they recomend. You will love the stuff.
BG = Made in USA,
Proform = Made in China.

Well guess more are having good luck with BG but I have had major issues with their carbs.
You know the old adage burn once shame on you burn me twice shame on me.
Taken many of them apart and they had lots of issues, had 4 I sold that ran pig rich no matter what we did, new owner threw metering blocks away and got new ones and had some better results. To me they had QC problems, may be better but I like Quick Fuel carbs. Havent had an issue with those or the HP series Holleys I have installed.

I just bought a new Demon for THE HEAP-I had to do some work to my old Demon to function properly(probably one of the first of the demon types -shavings,improperly drilled passages) but after the work it was so great I tried a new one-FLAWLESS
Quick fuel,Demon ,or the Holley HP's are all solid choices

If I were you I would just send it to Patrick at Pro systems and have it rebuilt and calibrated to your engine specs.

I finally haver the Quick Fuel carb on and what a huge difference it made, car is way more responsive then before, still a little fat at idle but we will play with it some more this weekend.
