I am debating going from 3.42 to 4.10 rear gears (tranny is a T56 with .50 overdrive). So alot of people tell me that is the perfect gears for it. Now how much of a PITA is it to change them out? Removing bolts & replacing isn't a big concern, it is doing the dial indicator thing, setting gear mesh that concerns me.

If this isn't something you have done in the past it is better to take the rear or whole car to a shop. Setting back lash and pinion depth are so important that you can take out a gear set in minutes being off just a little bit.
I have driven several cars with the T56 and 4.10 gears. It makes 5th and 6th gears that can be used without being headed downhill with a tailwind!

What should I expect to pay to have a shop do it?

You must be able to set the pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash to get the correct contact pattern. You must be able to read the contact pattern so that you know what adjustments need to be made to the pinion depth. All of this is set to within .001 inch.
I charge around $200 to $250 most of the time. Most shops are going to charge around $300 to $400.

Is that a 4.10 gear and installation kit for the 8.5 10 bolt rear end? A 4.10 gear is $165 and the installation kit is $92.
