hi all, well I joined just a few weeks ago and said I was hoping to get a Mopar b-body and it looks like it has happened!!
I should pick up the '70 roadrunner this week.
anyways, what I would like to know is, what size wheels and tyres can I fit under the guards(with out scrubbing) with basically stock suspension?
I intend to lower it a bit for now.
I though maybe 17x7 and 17x8 Cragar s/s with 205/50 17 and maybe 275/50 17?
what about 18's etc.
what sizes have other run?
look forard to your replies
thanks

I'm ordering up 18's for my Dart in another month so there is no reason in the world a RR can't run 18's. For the most part, depending on the wheel design of course, I think 18's look great on the runners.

205 wide up front sounds wide enough for a Honda Civic.....

You can fit a 245/45/17 17x8 with 5" backspacing easy up front.

I'd look at 275/40/17 17x9's with 5.5 backspacing up front without dropped spindles.

Run 18's if you need to fit some 14" rotors on it or want to run 5.72" backspacing more comfortably. Otherwise it's just adding unsprung and revolving weight.

yeah fair call on the 205's..
still stuck in the hot rod sizes.

I dont have to stick to 17's, but I sell Cragar wheels and of course I can get them at the right price, but they are 17x7 with 4" backspace and 17x8 with 4.5" backspace.
so if I ran these I could go with 245/40 and 275/40 no worries?

the car is Sublime Green( I think) with a white hood stripe, I was thinking polished wheels would work best??

I know you can go 10" wide in the back because my buddy is running some 15x10 Cragars with big (idk the size) MT street tires on his 69 Hemi RR. They are in the fender well with no rubbing so tires on a 17 or 18X10 will fit because they won't bulge out as much as his tires.
you can go 8" up front with standard offset.
Those b-bodies will accomodate some good size wheels/tires w/o any cutting or tricks.

Good luck and remember to post pics!

The backspace hurts the amount of tire you can fit in there. IHMO 245/40/17 look a little thin. Tough on the rims with bad roads. I wouldn't run that on 7" wide rim.

If you run into clearance issues it will be at the front lower fender lip corner. You can cut or fold as necessary.

I will be running a 17x7 and 17x8 combo on a 70 Duster with 225/50 and 255/50 respectively. They should be on the car in wek or so, I'll post the results but it looks as though it is going to work.

What's the front backspacing? Should be 4.5" or more.

A 225/60/15 with 15x7's and 4.25" backspacing is pretty close on the bottom front wheel lip. In certain alignments and past colision damage it might rub. That a .3" overall shorter tire than a 225/50/17, so it will be .15 closer at the lip if it has the same backspacing and rim width.

well I have gone with Polished 2 piece S/S Cragars in 17x8 and 17x9.5 with 235/45 17 and 275/40 17 for now.

I will most likley change them later on as my wheels supplier has some new designs coming out in a month or so in 18's and 20's

next item will be to drop it an inch or 2...
