Does the fuel system use a vented or non-vented gas cap ???
Is it building up pressure while sitting still ???

remove the gas cap and drive it home.

you may be able to get a larger o ring and seal it up. otherwise you may have to get creative or get a new tank.

If you drive it home make sure you carry a fire extingusher with you!!
Have you actually sat there with a rag and made sure where its coming from?? It may be the tank itself where the unit goes in.

If you put some black non hardening sealer, the same You use on head bolts you should be ok. It might look a little messy unless you clean up the excess. sometimes that is all it takes is a little bit.

Look at the gasket to see if it is being compressed and if it doesn't look like it then you are probably right about it needing to be thicker.

You can get some gasket material and make one to shim it up or just get an o ring that is neoprene the right size and go with it.

Goodluck as it is a pain to have to make stuff work when it is all new parts and they fail.

Yep I think you need to get a thicker Oring. Sorry mine is together or I would measure it.
