We have an east coast visitor wondering "Whats the best Sunday morning Cruise in, in [the LA] area?" on August 2, 2009? https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showpost.php?p=551892&postcount=19

We all know the answer to that question - Cruise the Crest.

Let's try to get a group of cars together to cruise the twisties on the Angeles Crest Highway on Sunday August 2, 2009.

As usual we should meet at the Shell Station off the ACH exit and the 210 freeway. Heading toward Pasadena on the 210, take the first exit east of the 2/210 interchange, turn right at the end of the ACH exit ramp and then quickly left into the Shell station. Heading away from Pasadena on the 210, you turn left at the end of the ACH exit ramp, cross over the 210 freeway and turn left into the Shell station.

Meeting time is 6:30am, we generally will wait 5-10 minutes for stragglers. The Angeles Crest Highway is a world class winding mountain road drive and can be a thrill (if you want it to be,) as are the scenic views. Bring any car you want or hitch a ride with one of the others.

We can eat at either Newcomb's Ranch (round trip distance of about 55 miles) or go all the way out to Wrightwood (round trip distance of about 120 miles), have a little breakfast and bench race along with a bunch of other gearheads with cool cars. Again, departure time from the Shell Station is August 2 @ 6:30am.

Already pitched it to the wife. I am a go. Now to find time to de-Spider the Camaro and get her running again (still no stinking new tires). Oh well, the SS is still fun in the hills!

Just got back from the crest. What A BLAST!!!. Too bad we picked up a slow leak in a tire so we couldn't continue to Wrightwood. Next time for sure. This was the first real test of the handling and braking of the car and I must say exceeded expectations. Would have been able to push it harder, but wife was starting to get a little nervous, but she was a trooper. It was great to meet Karl, Mike and Carl. Can't wait to do it again.:woot:

We all turn back at Newcombs. Unless there was another group, we didn't make it this time, though it was are intent to go all the way, but we came out after breakfast with a low tire. So we headed back and it was a good call. By the time we got back to the shell station I only had 10psi in the tire.

Mike, I didn't think of this till I got half way down the mountain, one of us should have followed you just in case.......oops, glad you made it down OK. We only made it to Newcombs this time. My first time playing leader and I had Mutual of Omaha "Wild Kingdom" going on out in front of me, 2 squirrels 3 or 4 birds trying to fly into the grill and a mule deer run across the road. It wasn't crowded with bicyclist this time like usual and it was cop clear for the most part.

No worries it was a great ride anyway, Can't wait to do it again. Got the flat fixed, but then was pointed out that my tires are 8 years old today and are in need of replacing before I do any more "spirited driving", Oh well I'm in the market for tires now. Any recommendations

I love my R888s. Very sticky tire and I don't need a real high milage tire for my car. I think they will get old before I wear them out as I seem to only put a few thousand miles per year on my car.

I like Kuhmos for the price they are hard to beat. I usually do brands by what sizes they offer, cause I'm looking for a special sizes for a look, pricing, and treadwear.

Dammit... the one week I forget to check for a CTC run and you guys go. I didn't think it'd be this early in the month...

And I was up at 4am too, couldn't sleep. I should of taken that as an omen to get the car keys and head for the hills.

Well... poop.

Next time guys! :)

Kumho XS. One of the best bang-for-the-buck tires around.

Yea I guess I will go for stick and sacrifice treadwear mileage. This set has been on this car for 5yrs and from a previous car as well and only have about 6k on these. Granted both cars were out of action for some time, but I still only put about 2500 miles in the last year. I gotta drive this thing more, thats the plan anyway.
I only have 16's and I really like them so tire selection is limited.
That or I'll have to wait and get 17's tire/wheel combo. Intro GT sports w-gray centers looks good

Darn !
I keep forgetting to check on this Angeles Crest monthly(?) cruise. Maybe I'll catch the next one. I personally prefer the Nitto NT-01 but it definitely is a dry traction only tire ... but also a pretty low price !
