I have a 69 mustang and want to black out all the chrome and stainless steel trim similar to this mustang http://www.mustangmonthly.com/featuredvehicles/mufp_0612_1969_ford_mustang_sportsroof/index.html
I was wondering what would be the best way to do this? Paint? Powdercoat?

I can't say what is best but interestingly, musclecar TV had an episode this weekend on the subject.

They pretty much said clean it with Brake cleaner as it doesnt leave residue, scuff it with a red scotch brite pad, then spray on some adhesion multiplyer that you can get at a auto paint supplier and paint away....

I'm not sure when during the week they post the episode. Last weeks episode is available. I assume this weeks will show up later in the week.
You can also buy episodes.

hate to burst anyone bubles but i dont think paint is going to stick to chrome by just a red scuff paint and adhesion promoter. I would check into this before doing it

HOK makes a paint that does stick with the right adhesion promoter. Powdercoating would be easier to get done, and looks better than paint on stuff like that IMO.

Sandblast it. On cast pieces the chrome will come off. On bumpers, send them to a chrome shop and have them striped. on the stainless scuff them with 180 and use a epoxy primer.

I spilled activated 2k primer on my bumper and I can't remove it any easier than anywhere else on the car.

Oh, and the episode is here

I bought some powdercoating equipment and the stuff works great as long as you prep it. How big are the items you want blacked out? I have done a few things and there is black chrome powder. I would be willing to help if you need it for things that would fit in a home oven. I just searched powdercoating and found this.

Have agree with Frank sandblast it and then paint it if you want to that route. I would powder coat it if it was me.

cheap way is to clean, scuff, spray few medium coats of Sherwin Williams 988 GBP followed by your choice of paint, works pretty well, done it plenty of times, but for ultimate durability and a bit more $$, get it powdercoated, if done right, it will not chip even if you throw bricks at it, I've done bunch of chrome bumpers that way
