By Kirsten McIntyre, NEWS 9
TUTTLE, Oklahoma -- A Tuttle man is pleading for the safe return of his rare, classic Camaro after thieves swiped it last week.
Roy Floyd loves collecting Camaros, but recently his pride and joy, a rare blue 1969 Camaro Z28, was stolen.
"Just devastated. Your heart goes down to your feet. Anger didn't kick in at first. It was just depression. Heartbroken," Floyd said. "These old cars are just a labor of love. It's not just the value of the car. It's what you put into them."
Floyd was returning home from a car show when he started having engine problems. He parked his muscle car along the side of the road in Oklahoma City and went home to get his tools. When he returned 45 minutes later, his classic cruiser was gone.
"It's just the thought of having something very few people have. That was a color I really valued, and they were hard to find. That car meant a lot to us," Floyd said.
He said his $70,000 collectable car was so rare he knows the thieves aren't driving it around. He said he thinks they have it hidden somewhere or have shipped it out to sell it.
"Japan loves American muscle cars now. Austria, Europe just loves American muscle cars," Floyd said.
But if it's still in the area, Floyd is hoping police will find it.
"We just have to sit around and hope it happens," Floyd said.
About 20,000 Camaros were made in 1969, of those only 600 were blue. Floyd also said his Camaro featured another rarity, the Raleigh sports package.
Anyone with information about the stolen car should call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300.

sorry to hear this - unfortunately there are many bad people in the world and you must assume somone is always angling to rip your ride.

I was shocked how many nice rides were left outside on the power tour with no security and no one got stolen.

you just never know.

I always keep a cell phone with me when I take mine out in case it breaks down so I can call for help and not leave the car. I think this is good advice.

what I have always wondered is why couldn't a guy who mounted his battery in the trunk put a kill switch in the trunk? Wouldn't the thief have to damage your trunk lid to get in, or I assume they could pop your hood and just hook a charge direct, but not every thief would be carrying a battery booster pack or extra battery.

So many variables and obviosly no car is 100% theft proof, but what are the best ways or tools to keep this from happening? I would be scared to leave my car for 1 minute.

chances are that somone called a flatbed and it was there and yanked the car in under 5 minutes.

They likely did not drive it off since it was already on the side of the road for some problem.

67 was 602

69 was more like 229K,

The way society is these days, I wouldn't leave the DD on the side of the road

I saw a old(early 70's) Ford truck slowly get stripped on the side of the road.

Im live in oklahoma and i dont know this guy, but i can say people are getting desperate around here and will steal anything. My truck was parked in front of my shop for sale and my neighbor caught some guys unhooking the shift cable from underneath and tring to pull it away! And there has been more than 10 trailers stolen in the last few months. People are getting brave!

im in norman just 10 or so min away and i didnt hear about this...sucks bad but ill def keep a look out. a while back they caught a ring of guys stealing trailers and one of those happened to be a friends race car trailer. he lost a lot of stuff but they finally caught them and recovered over 50 trailers full of tools, bikes you name it. anyway i think like 10 or 15 people got arrested including a small town cop and a sheriff or two. so its hard to trust anyone anymore. i wonder if any roll back wrecker services have heard of anything?

I did not see it on the news but it was in the paper. I would have never left the car alone. Call phone and AAA would have saved the day. I do feel bad for the guy

If my bucket broke down on the side of the road I am not leaving it there. I am calling a tow truck/ friend/ my brothers/ my dad/ I am calling someone but it ain't staying on the side of the road that is for sure. sometimes things could be prevented if you think a little.

You'd think with all these cameras mounted on every traffic light they'd be able to track the exact route taken after this vehicle was stolen.

They are monitored and recorded in real time, there is no reason why they can't. If I was the owner I'd be hounding the police to see if they can't come up with some video/images of the crime.

You have to secure everything nowadays... it stinks but that's the way it is. There is zero respect for other people's property and plenty of people out there that will risk their lives to steal your stuff....and believe me, if someone tries to steal MY stuff they WILL be risking their lives!

In Texas we can defend our property, including vehicles, with deadly force....and we uuuuuse it!

I have advanced security systems in my home and garages. I NEVER leave anything outside. I am ALWAYS armed and yet I STILL have to watch things like a hawk. Can't trust anyone to do what is right today.
