Glenn Bunch's HEMI Challenger

Congrats to Glenn Bunch and his 528 HEMI powered IMSA style Challenger. Won its class and took 3rd overall at the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge (UTCC) held this weekend at VIR.

Sure it's a pure race car--not much Challenger left. But the guy has continuously tweaked and upgraded the thing by himself for 37 years. And how many honkin' HEMI's do you see on the road course?

So it's most indaboobitably a hot rod. Sick!

I'm not sure when the Challenger build was started - back in the early part of the 70's, Glenn was trying to build up an XKE. His dad owned a small sports car dealership in Newport News (Saab and Lotus), and much of that car's build went on in the shop there. Really nice sheetmetal work, as I recall.

My distant connection is that the tiny TSD sports car rallye club that I belonged to at the time held our monthly meetings in that showroom, and a fellow lunchtime card-player had a lot of work on his Jag 2+2 done there. I can picture the place inside and out but can't for the life of me remember the name.

I have always loved that car. The body work is much refined from what it was back in the 70's and looks great but part of me liked the original design better. It surely must be a real beast. Here are some old pics of it.

I would absolutey LOVE to have three Camaros.

One track only car like Glenns Challenger.
One pro-touring car that rides nice on the street and has A/C.
And one Street Fighter that is a stripped down street legal rocket.

I just need to come up with about 300,000 to build them.
