So as soon as I got home last night, the wife started :poke: about going with her to the store to pick up millk. So I start playing video games and eating dinner, hopeing she'll give up and go on her own. Well two hours later, she won't give in, so we hop into the truck and head for the store. As I'm cruising the lot (bout 8:30pm) and I see what looks like a Nova stuck on parking lot curb. I swing the truck around, and ask if they're stuck and if they need a yank, because about 4 people were pushing on the front of the car. And they say no, they're not stuck, so I park the truck and jump out to help. Out of the drivers seat comes a guy I used to work with a few months back. The skinny is the shifters in park, but the cars in drive. And they don't know what to do, and they had just stopped at the store to get some drinks before hitting the road for Vegas. So we jack up the car..and I jack up the car and take a look on the underside. Turns out the shifter cable is burned through, and his trans is a couple degrees shy of a million degrees. So, I disconnect the linkage and shift the lever on the tranny to park. I tell him to hold the brakes and fire it up. Outof this car comes the worst grinding/screeching sound I've ever heard. and the car won't turn over. I ask him if it supposed to sound like that. He says it useually does. And its becaue his battery is low :bsjerk:. So..after swapping the battery for a new one in the trunk, we get back to horrible grinding. I ask him if he shimmed his starter. I get  back. so again... back under the car. I have him crank on it....hes grinding teeth down on the ring and starter. So we get that sorted out and get him fired up. After all that, I jump back under the other side and tap the lever into reverse, he backs out...jack him back up...tap into drive...and send him on his way.
The wife wasn't too happy that it took an hour for us to get 2 gallons of milk. :twothumbs

I think it's pretty cool you stopped and helped. There was a time when that's what hot rodding was all about.
Last summer I ran out of gas on a poker run. I was passed by three muscle cars on the run as I walked from the open hooded Nova to the gas station. The third guy threw a rev as he went by. Thanks.

ALWAYS stop for your fellow hot rodder - never know when it will be your turn. That and hotties in short shorts.... Well maybe not with the wife in the car.

Well we did an unsafe act as safely as possible. E brake was engaged and he was mashed down on the brakes to boot. I had only my arm under the car and was tapping on the shift lever with a wrench...and trusm me, as soon as the tranny clunked, I was out..FAST...lol

THAT is what the hobby is all about. Ever seen a biker broken down on the road alone?, probably never will.

My favorite was the guy who stopped just to tell me what I'd done wrong when I modded my car. "You need to getcha some double hump heads and some tall valve covers with some roller rockers, that'll have ya set up right. Whatcha got it sittin so damn low fer?"
