Anybody have any experience with the gt3 brakes? I wonder how they work on the street.

Have you checked on the price yet?

996 Porsche GT3 Brembo carbon/ceramics...I think they are about a $12k option on the car and $16k through the dealer after the fact last I heard.
If you're seriously considering a carbon/ceramic brake kit, you may want to consider Movit over the Brembo offerings for comparison: http://www.movit.de/rahmen/ceramic.htm

ZR1's are cheaper.

Has anyone used the movits? Could they be adapted to a ford 9in? I talked to the guys over at BS and there's all kinds of custom brackets/hubs/abs sensers involved in that car. Yeah, thats right, they're putting abs on that thing!
What would be the absolute best braking setup if price was not a concern?

Tobin,
Are you guys working on any kits based on the ZR1 components?

It wont work with ceramic brakes. I put ABS on my '69, but only because I found a controller that will work with my vehicle. Try and find a controller that will work with reverse brake fade associated with carbon ceramics AND the antilock prediction properties necessary for it to work correctly...you wont find it!

Hey Matt, I'm considering ABS on my 69 Camaro too. What controller did you use? I have ATS spindles up front with the speed sensors but nothing in back yet, did you use one or two sensors out back and how did you adapt it/them to the axle?

Eric,
I used a Bosch modulator assembly out of a Z06. The '98-02 sensors output the same waveform as a C5/C6 hub, so use those. I machined a hole in the Wilwood backing plate to accept the sensor and pressed the reluctor wheel on the axle itself. It's a pretty involved process, especially since mine also uses stability control with steering sensors and two accelerometers.

Bolting them up is the easy part...getting them to work properly to their potential is a whole 'nuther story as Matt already pointed out. I won't rule anything out, but it won't be anything in the near future.

What are the issues, exactly?

I actually prefer the 3 port/channel controller from the Sierra pickups, and you can find the 10 bolt rearends everywhere and they do have disc brakes.
I actually helped 2 guys use this Kelsey/Hayes unit, its small and dependable for the most part.
And the big trick is keeping the differential between wheels. I used this one as it integrated well with the computers they used with their LSx conversions.
Not as good as a 4 channel unit but it does still work. They told me for handling it still worked great.
Those 2 guys used narrowed truck rearends and kept the stock sensors. These 2 guys so far are using the stock sized cop car PV41 225-60-16 z rated tires to keep the tire sizes the same for now. They are working out tire sizes for diameter matching till we can open up the counter chip and reset the ratio in side. According to the 3 guys I have helping to unlock it the K/H unit can be "reset" to read different wheels speeds,,,kind of like a take it for a drive and hit the reset button while your normal driving. So many of the first generation and second generation units simply attempt to maintain proper wheel speed for all "channels".
Its still in the process of testing but hey they are working great so far and having no issues at all so far.

Lee, any idea what the cycle frequency on those units are? Typically those units are set up purely for a stability standpoint - with really no performance braking in mind. Still would be good for making sure you don't flat spot a tire though.
Also, I'm guessing the calculations it uses to predict lockup is way off from what a musclecar would need.
