I've started shopping for an engine to put in my 68 Camaro. Just received a quote for the following:
Chevy 383 stroker, 2 bolt main
Pro Topline aluminum heads (64cc chambers / 200cc runners)
Studded mains and heads
Hypereutectic pistons (Keith Black, maybe?)
Eagle forged rods and nodular steel crank (internally balanced)
Pro Comp full roller rockers
Edelbrock Performer intake and 750cfm carb w/ electric choke
Wolverine (Blue Racer??) camshaft (.488 lift, 234deg/244deg, 114deg separation)
New bearings, timing chain, HEI, water pump, oil pan, flexplate, and freeze plugs.
Estimated at 9.5:1 compression and 400hp / 400#ft.
What should I expect to pay for this setup fully assembled by a reputable engine shop, but not installed?
And how "streetable" is this engine? The cam is a little more aggressive than I had planned originally, but the builder says it should work great in the 383. The car will be used mostly for cruising around town, with an occasional run down the quarter mile.
I'm a "newbie", so any feedback would be helpful.
Thanks!
