You lost me...are you asking if a 245/40/18 will work on a 9 or 9.5 rim? I would say no, not only from a safety standpoint but it would not look good either.

The 9 and 9.5 are both to big. 8, 8.5 at the most. backspace will be critical.

I would run the rear at 9.5 with 275s

What wheels?

i don`t even know what the brand was, i just had the link and now i cant find it, so i should go with a 8" rim in front and 9" or 9.5" rim in the rear ? and what are good size tires for both? i dont like when the front tire sidewall height is smaller than the rear, i like when the sidewall height is almost the same front and back

You lost me...are you asking if a 245/40/18 will work on a 9 or 9.5 rim? I would say no, not only from a safety standpoint but it would not look good either. The recommended rim width for the 245/40-18 is 8" to 9.5".

A 245/40-18 is unsafe on a 9 or 9.5" wheel? That's simply untrue. Using the widest recommended rim width is the ideal way to run low-profile tires for best handling and response.

If you can't fit a wider wheel than 8" on the front of your car then you'll have settle for that, but a wider wheel would always be better for handling.

If you think it won't look good, then that's just your opinion.

I'm also running 275/40-18s on the same 9" wide wheel, a compromise because I can't fit a wider wheel on the back of my car. The recommended rim width for that size is 9" to 11", I'd much rather be running the 275/40-18 on a 10" or 11" wheel.

Dude.....take a pill and calm down, I know all that you are saying is true but that IS my opinion. There is no need to attack me for it.

Dude, you're the one that needs to calm down.

I didn't attack you, I just pointed out that your statement about the wider rims being unsafe for that tire size was untrue. If you think that was an attack on you then maybe you're the one who needs a pill here.

You passed on some bad info and I pointed that out rather than just let your statement stand. Sometimes when you post something on the forums you'll find that someone disagrees with you.

Dom,

You can run that 245/40-18 on either one of those rim sizes and it would work just fine.

Tire choice is up to you, only you can decide which brand looks best to you. Check out the various tires in that size on the Tire Rack website, they show some pretty good detail pictures of the tread and sidewall.
