View Full Version : Problem installing Spohn sway bars on A-body

I am installing Spohn front and rear sway bars on my GS. On the front, the bar hits the underside of my steering box. If I tighten down the frame brackets, it will hit an ear underneath the box, which is a stock looking quick ratio box from CPP. Any suggestions?

On the rear, pro-touring style bar, it would appear that the end links are too short to reach up to the frame mounts. Or does the bar angle upward drastically, like in my pics? Second pic shows relationship w/ rear cover, while bar is angled up.

On the front, do you have a picture of the arms over the control arms? You also don't want to install either front or rear bar with the rear end in droop. You'll want it supported, and at ride height.

I was thinking the same thing.
It looks like the ends of the front bar are way low, making the bend hit the bottom of the steering box.
Same with the rear, the axle looks like its hanging low?

The rear axle doesn't look supported at all. Get it to ride height and it may be easier to install. The front bar looks like it might just be upside down.

That actually happens quite often.

Well,
I finally got back out in the garage and flipped my front sway bar over. It now clears the bottom of the steering box (and the idler arm) fine, but the bar hits the tie rod ends. In fact, the interference is keeping the front of the car from settling to ride ht. The spacer sleeve on the sway bar end link measures 3". My old sleeve measures 2 1/4". I am stuck again. Could the sway bar run under the tie rods, and use a shorter end link?

Wow. That dude is tight. Maybe just the pic angle but it looks like the bar would hit the frame too on compression??
You can mount roll bars to be under the CA but they will hang really low and not have a good arm orientation unless the mounts for the bar are dropped way down too.
I had some major fitment issues with my bar, but it was a custom setup. That bar is made for that car right?? Id be calling the supplier and forward the pics. That thing is gonna hit in a few areas from the looks of it. JR
Oh, one last thing. It doesnt look correct at the ends. The ends are bent to keep the bushings semi flat. The ends are bending the bushings over at ride height. I think its upside down again :) Look at the angle of the flats on the arms, they should be level.

Have you had that setup on the car with the stock sway bar?
