AAS has signed the contract and is confirmed at Great America in Santa Clara for July 25-26,2009.
This will be rds 5 and 6 of the 09 season, if all goes well, we will get one more weekend this year, possibly in Aug., and then hopefully we will be able to negotiate for more dates for 2010.
Directions to the site should be posted soon, but basically it's the south/west parking lot at the corner of Tasman and Centennial (http://www.americanauto-x.com/info/default.asp?Page=Locations) right next to the 49'er's training center in Santa Clara.

Anyone else coming to this event?

It should be a great event - I wish I was going for this one. Hopefully they will finalize their August event location soon so I can make some plans...

M-I-L is back at her place and doing pretty well. She's weak from laying around for about a week but knowing her, she'll be back kicking tail quickly.
I should be at AAS around 8ish on Saturday and run later in the day. My friend's running in the morning so want to take some rides with her then.
AAS will know about Marina after they run this event. If they get approval for more AAS events at Great America, they'll probably drop Marina and run at GA. Don't book flights just yet ... will know more by next Monday.
And you should see those cool wheels and tires ... pure unadulterated sex. I'll post pictures when everything's back together (hopefully tonight).

Hey Mary, how was the turn out for the AAS this weekend? Any pics?
James OLC
07-27-2009, 10:53 AM
From what I have seen over at the Bay Area autocross site the turnout was increadible - maxing out (on Saturday at least) at 150 cars! Mary's car looks great with the new shoes but I haven't got an official opinion yet - I'm sure that she'll chime in soon..

AAS was great!!!! The Camaro was soooo much fun to drive with the R888's even though they're not a very good autocross tire. You can put that car just about any place you want ... just push the red "Easy" button and presto, an E-Ticket ride for those that remember Disneyland in the '70's and before.
The parking lot was full of elevation changes so the course ran up and over hills, down into drops, and really tested suspensions and brakes. I was worried that the Camaro would be leaving a trail of parts in it's wake but we came through intact. I have video and will upload a link if I can figure out how to crop it. Uhhh, Dave ...???
I think I was about .8 behind the ESP Camaros with Hoosiers on Sunday and a couple of guys asked if my car still had leaf springs and a stock subframe. Was cool to tell them it did. Hope to get some stickier tires on the new Forgelines and try them out.

Coming up is going to be the coolest car week ever and can't wait.
Here's the pics from last weekend and I'll post video soon. There's some sh*tliner stuff but most are of "our" cars.
Larry Park (now deceased but that's another story that requires additional reading if you've got about half an hour) ... http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/04.27.00/cover/park-0017.html co-founded AAS and being predominantly involved with building and driving Corvettes, often referred to the imports as sh*tliners. In the beginning, AAS offered much higher speeds with faster and longer courses, and didn't have many classes for the imports and slower domestics. Over the years, AAS softened and gradually gave these cars a place to run.
Each year, AAS has the "Larry Park Memorial" and it's usually over the July 4th weekend in memory of the guy. Everyone shares "Larry stories" and has a good time.

I hope True doesn't ban me because I said "sh*tliner."

I guess I need to get some real numbers for this one...
Order from these guys ... http://www.soloperformance.com/. Or PM Deanna as she has a friend that made some cool numbers for her Chevelle. She's coming down for AAS as well ...
Get the ones that are either very thin magnet or the static cling numbers and have them shipped to us. They have lots of styles and I like the oval or rectangular backing with the numbers/class designation all included. There's all sorts of color combinations available too.
Can't wait ...
