Hey everybody. I've been driving an '05 GTO for a while now. I love the car - I thought about a 'vette and drove one for a while, but eh. It just isn't my thing, especially where I am in life right now. Plus, I'm more of a muscle car kind of guy. There is no doubt that they're amazing machines.. buuut.....

The GTO is a great car. But it has a lot of issues. I'm now finally getting around to resolving all of 'em. :smoke:

One of the main problems is the suspension. I just ordered some Pedders coilovers for the car (~1400$). I really don't like that company or the customer service. Unforunately, no one other than them makes a fast rack other than them, and they're manufactored in the AU. Takes months and months to get them. They may not even make any more.

There any company out there that makes custom racks that will perform and not totally break my wallet? The pedders piece is usually around 700$, and still apparently still has a little bit of grey at center.

Thanks guys.:machine:

What kind of improvements are you looking for? Faster ratios, or just better feel and feedback?

First to do would be to put on a KRC steering pump, which should bolt right on. You may have to use a remote resevoir depending how the pump is clocked, but that wouldn't be a big deal. All OEM and OEM-based aftermarket pumps have lousy output flow (linearity), while the KRC pump outputs the same flow just above idle up to redline. Greatly enhances feel and the adjustable flow allows you to fine tune it.

Turn One might be able to install a larger torsion bar if you'd like. This would firm it up some and increase feedback, but it wont make it a world-class steering system unless the valving is modified also...that's big R&D time.

If you're looking for faster ratios, that would be tough. I don't know of anybody who would cut a new rack and pinion gear for it.

I would be looking for a faster ratio rack and resposiveness.

There is one rack on the market with a 2.4 gear that is blueprinted, but there is apparently a dead spot in the center and it is exaggerated under 45 (I drive mine daily..).

If a company put the R&D in they'd have the market cornered as they probably aren't going to make the upgraded racks anymore. That and a lot of people on the fence would go for a perfect unit.

If I were to install the Pedders fast ratio rack, is there anything I could do to improve the on-center feel?
