I have plans on molding this 1969 Pro-Street Camaro into a pro-touring car. I would like to hopefully sell off the narrowed Dana 60 rear end with 4 link, modernize the interior (I know it looks sweet!!) and sell the motor and convert it to a LS1, and 4l60E. There are alot of these cars out there I just want to know if you think it is feasible to convert these cars or just start with a stocker? I am wanting to have a car I will keep for years to come so this is not a quick investment but a keeper! I was hoping to do a series in a magazine to document if it is cost effective so we will see if any magazines feel it is worthy of a series. Let me know what you think, this time I will listen!!

save that poor car and do it!

just stay away from this new west coast 20 and 22 x 15 rear wheel thing that's going on out here. The look is just retarded.

I didnt know that is what Steve did...I hope I can sell off some of these parts to fund the car.

Here is a thread that was asking for more info about Steve's build but nothing came of it.

Well, I guess I will go against the grain on this one. I know this is pro-touring.com, but I say leave it Pro Street. And no I don't have a mullet or wear wrestling shoes. :)

Upgrade the interior (junk the carpet, seat covers and steering wheel), upgrade the wheels, lose the fake hose covering under the hood and maybe tone down some of the chrome.

I actually like Pro Street cars and have been considering building a more modern version of Pro Street (I saw someone using a new name for this?) for my next project.

I like the big tucked in rear tires and the blower sticking thru the hood. Reminds me of my old hot wheels cars I guess.

Let the flaming begin. :)

1985 called. they want their car back.

seriously, I'm sure when this car was built we ALL would have thought it was cool.
the '69 camaro is this generations '55 chevy; it's been built in every incarnation, and when that 'look' gets dated, it gets 'modernized' to look current.
I think in 20 years there will be a market for chrome trim and door handles, 'cause everyone will be wanting to put them back on!

I think you will get pennies on the dollar parting that car out. I would try to sell it first and then look for a shell or plane Jane to build.

Steves car was pro-street at one point, but not when he bought it. The former owner did the original transformation.

The body looks great in the pics. Paint and body are very expensive ticket items on any car. If those items are as nice as they look, you could just keep the car and convert it...if you really want a Pro-touring Camaro. If you like Pro-street, just update the interior and call it good. Then build a different car.

I dont mind so much the pro-street but I really want driveability. I may be able to detune the motor a little and add a OD tranny, and narrowed 12 bolt

I think it is a great idea. Cant wait to see the updates.

the great thing about that car is that you can slowly change it over to PT, and still be able to drive it along the way.

if you start with a shell, you won't get to drive it for a LONG time. and that's no fun.

X2 I,m with Jackfrost, drive it and change it as you go. I took my 69 apart 3 years ago and it is still a shell at the moment!! I like the way the guy in the thread below is doing his project.

By the way I liked your Camaro you had at RTTH4!!

Car looks awsome as is. A little here and theres and it would be a very stylish Pro-Tourer. However you decide? That is a cool car and it can look cooler!

No question I'd convert your current car. That's the most economical way to do it not to mention having wheels to drive. Pro-street has it's place but you can accelerate and handle at the same time.

Zanie
07-12-2009, 07:11 PM
There is a handful of people that are still building cars for this look. I would think you could get good money selling to the right guy. Let somebody else update the interior and put the latest big hoop pro streeter wheels on there.
Those rear wheel openings look like they may have been stretched. If thats true, a pro-touring sized wheel-tire is gonna look small......no?

Zanie

Remember back 20 years ago when everybody was undoing their gasser cars? and now they are cool again?

Well.....Just sit on that Camaro for 15 years or so and it will be all the rage!!!

Vegas69
07-12-2009, 07:56 PM
Doubt it....it was really hard to make them turn 15 years ago.

crazyfireman
07-13-2009, 04:11 AM
The rear wheel wells are stock not stretched. The only real mod is the tubbed rear. I am definately going to go for it, 42-8 is good enough advice for me! I will start a project thread soon, and hopefully will begin some changes soon!

Good excuse to get a carbon fiber hood , get rid of that stick up thingy you'll need a new hood

Update:: I was fortunate that a guy REALLY wanted the Pro Street 69 and paid me a nice chunk of change for it. I was able to buy this 67, which was fully redone with new EVERYTHING, and put right around 10k in my pocket!! This car almost looks identical to the 67 that I regretably sold. I already have tubular control arms, 12" discs, and Hotchkis springs so ride height will be coming down this week.
