View Full Version : engine tilter or plate?

i'm trying to find a cheap hoist so i can pull my engine. should i buy an engine tilter http://summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1021/ or just the simple carb adapter plate. http://summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1015/

Being able to tilt the engine as your raise it can make it a 1 man job instead of 2.

I never liked the idea of lifting my engine and trans by 4 5/16ths bolts in aluminum. They do it everyday but it still makes me nervous to see it done.

Get an engine tilter like the one that is pictured in this link.

We used one to install my LS3 with the Harrop Supercharger and it made the install lot easier. I did remove my fuel rails during the installatiion, but this is the only way that I could have installed the engine.

I agree with Jim-I never liked the idea of lifting the whole deal with the carb bolts.

Buy the engine tilter. It makes the installation quite a bit easier.
I cut the handle/crank off and welded a nut so that I could use my air ratchet.

thanks for the advice. i did pick up a tilter. ironically, the day after i get it, i find a hoist, with a tilter! what a surprise lol

You probably are better off that you missed out on this deal, an inexpensive hoist would come with a junk tilter that wouldn't work for crap, spend the extra bucks for a good tilter you'll be glad that you did. A plate or even a strap is better than a cheap tilter
