Hello everyone. Was hoping my first post would not be a type of emergency, but hoping you can help.

My car is a 69 camaro.

I put in a full msd system (6al2, billet dist, blaster coil). I went to set the timing and had issues. I tried to start it and it barely cranked and before I could get my fingers off the key it when POW! and shot flames out the carb. Scared me to death but I didn't burn my eyebrows off or anything. (have the remote start button under the hood and had my head stuck right under the hood!)

After this happened my car is completely dead. No fuel pump, fans, water pump or anything.

I figure the starter was just under too much load and blew something. (timing was TOO advanced?)

Here is my question:

I assume I blew a MAIN fuse or breaker but can't seem to find one in line from the battery to the starter.

I DO have a batt relocation kit to the trunk. (car came that way to me)

What have I done? What did I blow and how do I fix it?

Appreciate the help. Hoping to get back out there and get it going.

Thanks,
Chad

i'd start at the battery and make sure you have power all the way forward, then to the starter, relay block, etc

Thanks that did give me some progress. Starting from the battery I actually get all the way to the fuse box and it has power (for non-switched items) but when I turn on the key it is not powering up any switched items.

Is there a fuse in line to the ignition switch somewhere? I've checked all the fuses in the fuse box and they look fine. Just can't get the ignition to tell the fuse block to fire up everything else.

What am I missing? In the garage now trying to figure it out if you can help. thanks!

I would check for battery power at the back of the alternator first. If no power at alternator post- inline fuse or fusible link blown. If you have power at alt. Check for power on the smaller wires ( 8 or 10 guage) coming off the battery post on the starter. If there is no inline maxi fuse, there has to be one or two (most likely two) fusible links coming off the starter. Check power before and after the fusible link.

Thanks guys. Everything started working again when I when to pull off the cover to the main relay at the fuse box. I guess maybe it is bad and when I jiggled it everything fire up.

Also does the main disconnect switch trip under an extreme load? Didn't know if they are set up to trip in the case of a starter overload.
