I am running a Pantera ECU and I connected the power wires that run the injectors and the coils through relays because of the high current they will draw. With the trigger side of the relay hooked to a switched 12v source, the relay powers down during cranking and obviously the car will not start.

Here is how they are connected.

30 to battery
87 to injector (and coils)
85 ground
86 12v switched

How do I connect the relay so that there is still power to the output while cranking?

Try connecting the switched side of the relay to the s terminal on the starter solenoid as well as the ignition switch. The original points in the car were probably connected there to supply a 12 volts to the coil while cranking.

Thanks Shep. I ended up hooking up a second relay into the cranking circuit. I was worried that the switched 12v that needs to operate the injectors and coils would engage the starter solenoid all the time.

That's why he said to use the "S" terminal. There is the main power in, the signal from the key, and an extra terminal that was used to supply full battery voltage to the points only during cranking. That terminal feeds off of the power to the starter motor from the solenoid, so once you let go of the key it is no longer powered.

But if I had used only the s terminal there would have been no power to the components when not cranking. Doesn't matter, I appreciated his input and got it working, that is the main thing.
