Water Stains

I have a 24 foot enclosed hualmark trailer that is about 4 years old now. It is wight and has a galvanized roof. The roof constantly turns the sides black whenever it rains. I wash it as often as time allows which is not often because it takes about half a day to scrub it real good and try and get the black stains off. It seams that recently I can’t get it very clean anymore it is stained pretty badly. What do you guy with similar trailers do to clean the galvanized stains off. I tried all types of different cleaners nothing real seams to what to touch the stuff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Brian,
Go to a local RV shop. They have great cleaners that will help with the black streaking. You are not parking it under a tree are you?

I already tried some RV cleaner that I got from WALMART it was the same as using regular car wash it did nothing. Maybe an RV store would have something stronger.

Your problem is really common with RV's and most RV specialty shops have the good stuff. You can even order it online at www.campingworld.com
I think that is their website address anyway.

To stop it from happening again after you get it clean, go to a roofing supply store and buy some WHITE elastomeric coating and coat the roof of your trailer. Don't get the cheap crap from a lumber yard or wally's, get some good stuff that the roofing supply reccomends. Actually Home Depot has a contract with GAF materials and they might have some "Topcoat" (brand name) there that will do good. The cheap stuff will not last and will peel like a mofo and be a waste of $. The key to making it work is to pressure wash the roof and get it really clean and really dry. Make sure to read the can to see about the application temps also. Too cold and it will not dry properly. This should eliminate any more streaking of the sides of the trailer, and also make it ALOT cooler inside in the summer.

Thanks for the suggestion Jimmy I think I might try and paint the roof before I try to clean it again. I got two panels of it spotless after about 3 hours work and the first time it rained they have black stains again.

This may be the stuff you already got from wallyworld but "Black Streak Remover" from wallyworld worked great, wasted a few towels but oh well.

and to get the side clean after coating the roof..hit it with Comet on a dripping wet wash mit keep it wet and it will shine up bright white easy...then you need to wax it..you may prefer the wax in the soap trick....I drag I white one around and once a year it gets the comet and hand wax treatment and it looks brand new.

Jimmy I got some stuff made by a company named Henry’s is it any good ever herd of it. I plane on painting the roof this weekend.
