ok due to doing several jobs over the years i have two cans of the same color. gm impulse blue. but one is ppg while the other is sherwin williams. seperatly they will not be enuff to do the truck i'm painting but together it would be enuff. the color does not have to be exactly impulse blue since this is a custom all over paintjob. so will i see any problems with mixing the bases's?

I wouldn't do it. You're asking for adhesion and compatibility problems.

I have to agree with Kevin you are just asking for problems. Plus if you have to do any touch work or have issues the cost to fix it will far outway the cost of getting the correct paint...I live by these words " we never have enough time or money to do it right the first time but we always seem to have enough of both the do it right the second time"

+1.

Different layers of different companies (for instance, SPI Primer under PPG Base under SPI Clear), is one thing. Mixing the two is another.

Maybe just use one for the outside panels, and use the other's for the inner areas, and truck bed?
