I found a 1977 Camaro and I am hoping to go look at it tomorrow. I have been waiting around on something that I can wrench on to tide me over until I am financially able (har har) to build the car I want. I am really wanting a 70-77 Trans Am, but this one showed up and these cars have some untapped potential. According to the owner, it is pretty straight, minimal rust and a running 305. I am going to feel it out and part of me wants to know what a $400 Camaro looks like. I have owned a first gen, two third gens and a fourth gen. So, I need to own a second gen and now a fifth gen at some point in time.
As for the car, if I go this route, I would do a tune up, suspension mods, brakes and wheels first and I plan on buying a 5.3 LS1 to build up on a budget. I will probably do this even if this isn't the car for me. I would be using PHR's G/28 and son of G/28 as inspiration. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?p=514705

I'll let you know tomorrow if it was truly a $400 Camaro or if it was a diamond in the rough like the guy says it is (doubtful).
