Still working out pricing.

By the way they will fit verts also. When designing them we made sure they would work in coupes and verts.

Here are a couple more pics of the kicks and cans. These are of the prototypes the production versions will look even better.

As I said earlier we should be ready to ship in about two weeks.

The price for the kick panels is $250.00 for the set. The cans will be 75.00 for the set. Parts are hand laid fiberglass and black gel coat finish.

Thanks for your interest.

Can you comment on using these with an OE A/C kick panel vent system?

67speedfreak

Carl,

The can closes off the vent hole so I don't think these would work with the factory AC vent setup.

seal against the bucket? I would assume the bucket is put in the hole. The speaker is screwed through the kick panel, through the lip of the bucket, into the cowl. Does this make sense?

I guess what I am getting at is does the speaker seal off as to not run free air?

67speedfreak
07-18-2009, 02:06 PM
Payton,

They are not free air but they are not 100 % sealed either.

Here are some pics of the installation.

We seal all the way around the flange with 3M strip-calk.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/07/IMG_5382-1.jpg

Install the can in to the vent opening. Fasten with 5 retaining screws supplied with the cans.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/07/IMG_5404-1.jpg

Slide the kick panel into place. Then you will need to drill two small holes and secure with two counter sunk screws Supplied with the kicks.

We have talked about offering a rear deck panel but there are so many different speaker configurations that could be used it would be hard to please everyone.

We put one 10 sub and two 6.5s and tweets in Agent Orange and it sounded great.

I have a roll bar in the rear, so no one will be in the back seat. How do you think this would sound with 1 10" sub in a box coming thru the rear deck, then these kick panel speakers being pushed by a amp? do you think they would be close enough to the driver and passenger to provide full rich sound, or do you think I would need some 6x9s in the rear deck. I know this would work if they were mounted in the doors.

Mark Antrim

Installed mine in a 69 Camaro. The fit was great, contours were dead on. I only have 2 inputs on these panels, first if you have vintage air installed you might want to drill the holes before you install the ac unit. The use of a right angle drill might have saved some headaches. The other is the holes for the midrange speakers had to be opened up for the choice of speakers I chose. I wanted matching speakers for my already purchased rear 6x9's.

I do have to say that the customer service was great. My parents ordered these for me at Christmas and they never used "never heard of " paypal. They talked my mom through this and said if she had any questions to call them back.

Thanks again for a great product.

I am leaning towards these, can anyone tell me how does the system sound? I wander how hard it would be to make panels that bolt to the undersider of the dash that follows the contours of the AC, parking brake etc, to prevent the sound waves from being absorbed under the dash?

Screamin' Performance is proud to offer these custom kick panels for 67-69 Camaros.

They fit a 6.5 in mid driver and a 1in tweeter. These were designed around Boston acoustic pro speakers but will fit most others.
Awesome work. I am pretty sure I'd like a set of these, but want to verify a few things as I won't be using the Boston Pro's.

I assume that these are setup for the Boston Pro60SE
http://mobile.bostonacoustics.com/manuals/Pro60SE_man.pdf

My questions related to what will fit:
1) What is the dimensions of the grill you are using and is there any extra space for a slightly larger speaker. I notice on the BPro spec sheet their grill is 7" (177mm).
2) They also show 37mm of clearance for the driver and its xmax, is the grill you are supplying comparable?
3) The Pro60SE are 2.5" (63mm) deep. Is there any extra clearance for a deeper driver? (80mm would be my target)
4) The basket diameter of the speaker is 5.25"(133mm), how much extra clearance is there around the driver? (for instance would 145mm fit?)
5) The tweeter cut out shows a 1.75" (46mm) cutout, with a flange of 2.5".

Other general questions:
6) Where are the tweeters aimed to? (my goal here is to understand how far off axis from the drivers ears I need to plan as I pick my drivers)
7) If you do not run the protective cup, how much of the elements do you think the driver will be exposed to?
8) To install the panels does it require that you bend them or do they go in even if they were stiff? (I plan on adding some mass and deadener to the panels to further reduce any resonances)

Sorry for all of the questions, although hopefully they will help others as well. As an aside the reason for my questions are that I have a large collection of 7" (175mm) drivers that I would like to audition in the car before selecting which ones to actually use. In the non-car world this is a very common size although less so in the mobile world. Considering I am a midbass nut having more dynamic capability both from Xmax and from Sd is something I'd like to have. If they won't fit, it will mean I will just have to adjust and go with a more normal 6.5" driver, but I wanted to ask as using what I have already is of obvious benefit.

Thank you.

Sean

OK, That is alot of info but I will try and answer your questions.

The grill we are using measures 7"

The close out cans are 3.5" deep for speaker clearance

Yes I believe there is extra clearance around the driver

The tweeters are angled so the the drivers faces the passenger and the pass faces the driver.

The cans seal off the kick opening from the elements. Without them water will leak in when it rains.

The panesl should not require bending to fit, we spent alot of time on fitment.

Thanks,
Brian

Has anyone installed these with Vintage Air's Gen IV kit? Looks like VA routes the hoses through the blower hole and in through the hole behind the speakers. Will this interfere with the panels? I bought the close-outs too, so looks like the pass side won't fit with the hoses.

Thoughts?

I stopped by their shop yesterday to see these panels in person. Very nice item. Quality is top notch. If I decide to put 6.5 components in my kicks I'll definately use these panels. I'm still deciding between the Infinity Kappa 6.5 components and a set of free Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates crossed to remove the low end.

But you could not do better for your 1st gen by using these panels for your system.

Or is there not enough recess in the speaker opening to mount an adapter plate?

Thanks!

I got the kick panels and close out cans for my 67 Firebird. The quality is top notch and the close out cans fit perfectly. I do have a question for those who installed their panels though. Is there suppose to be a gap between the cans and kick panels? I installed the driver side panel and there is a 1/2" gap between the panel and close out can. I took out the carpet and it made no difference. Same gap on the pass side. The panel edges were butted up against the frame.

Thanks,
Tu

Tu,
Yes, there should be a gap between the can and the kick panel. Glad you like the panels!

Thanks. I was worried that the panel got warped or something.

Ordered a set a bit ago and just got around to installing them. Very nice product definitely recommended.

My car isn't on the road yet, but wired up my stereo to have something to listen to while working on the car and it sounds very nice. Very easy straight forward install. I was trying to see if I could get 5-1/4" speakers to fit, but just bit the bullet and bought 6-1/2" speakers and will resell the 5-1/4"s.

Using the Polk speaker grills temporarily since they are easier to remove, then once interior is on final assembly will use the nicer grills.

Brian - you guys happen to sell the grills separately? Wouldn't mind a set for my rear speakers to match, thx.

Those are very nice. What would something like that run to cover the panels?

67speedfreak

To cover the panels as you see them would run $150.00. They are done in two pieces with a stitch along the door edge this allows the material to conform better and lay flatter. This is a little more work but the result is worth it IMO.

Brian

Run your hoses above the kick panels, that's how I did them in my 2nd gen kicks and vintage air..to be able to use the kickpanels I made...you'll have to drill four new holes and use the grommets what came with the VA kit

Hello All: Given that the high range of a tweeter is so dependent on not being obstructed, and most of us have knees, do these kick panels work for the tweeters or do we really need to get the tweeters up in the A-pillar molding?

If youre making a-pillars anyway, then I would put them in the pillar. A noisy classic car gives some "cushion" for less than ideal speaker placement (in the kick panel) because its harder to hear small details. If youre an audiophile that appreciates really good sound, you may want to consider the time alignment when positioning the tweeters in relation to the woofer. (that is, unless youre running an active crossover)
