Hey,
How low is the sound allowance out at Leguna Seca? How are some guys meeting the requirements?

I think it's 90 dB measured at turn 3.
I was there several years ago with a friend of mine who was running his Alfa. He got popped. We tried a muffler and foam in the engine compartment thinking it was noise off the intake.
There was a bunch of Porsche guys there that weekend with fabricated exhaust tips pointing away from the sound meter.
Most of the guys just backed way out of it near the meter then back into it once they were a safe distance away.

I say the track sues its stupid residential neighbors for being idiots for buying a home right next to a race track then bitching about the noise. :machine:

My friend has Spin Tech mufflers on his 69 Camaro and the exhaust is too loud for the track. I told him to look into Magnaflow or DynoMax.

There's only four or five events at Laguna Seca that have unrestricted sound. All other open track events are either 91 or 92 dB and I think SCCA Regional/National events also has to meet those requirements. We have turn downs and outs but found that a huge majority of noise was actually coming from the open K&N air cleaner under acceleration.
The official station where it's measured is on the outside of Turn 5 but the sound nazi can go anywhere with a hand-held meter if they think a certain car is borderline or too loud. It's also safety in numbers as they can't isolate sound sources between one car and another.
Most track events will give you a warning with one or two chances to "fix" it before being black flagged for good.
Cheers,
